Vista x64 - Uninstall not working

Hello...

I purchased and downloaded OD+ yesterday. Have never had the free version on this computer. Brand new install of Vista Ultimate x64. After spending a few hours last night trying different combinations to be able to ditch the taskbar, I learned that x64 support is really nowhere to be found in this product so I decided to uninstall.

When I click on OD in the Programs and Features applet and then choose Uninstall, nothing happens. I mean nothing at all. No application starts (or if it does, it shuts down almost immediately so Task Manager does not even register the action). The application remains firmly installed.

How do I get this off my computer short of manually ripping it out and roto-routering the registry? Is there some trick to this? What am I missing, or is that also something coming in a future release (as some of the docklets say when you try to add them)?

Uninstalling should have worked, unless something got borked during the install.

Have you tried to install again (over the currently installed one) and then tried a uninstall?
I know that sounds strange, but sometimes that actually works.

why don't you try to do this via stardock central. download it and try that method. oh,by the way I have OD+ and Ultimate x64 and it works just fine for me. I can get rid of the taskbar merely by clicking one button( configure dock and click hide taskbar. works for me ;)

Yeah the beta version on SDC works on x64 without problems, only drawback is its in x86 mode because there is no native 64 bit addition. :) (Meaning it uses 50% more memory than it would if it had native x64 support)

OK, so I tried the install again and then uninstall - no change. Stays installed like it or not. No flash, no nothing when the applet tells OD+ to uninstall, just flat out nothing happens. I also rebooted between the install and the attempt to uninstall.

My problem (other than not being able to uninstall) is not that I can't HIDE the taskbar with OD+. That works just fine. The problem is that the start button docklet and the (suggested in another thread) other start replacement docklet don't seem to work. The one which comes with OD+ tells me that x64 support is coming in a future release, so just hold on. The other one installs just fine, but when I click the button OD+ just disappears. No error message, no logged error in the event logs, no nothing. It just stops running and disappears. It restarts just fine, but nothing will prevent the click of that docklet's button from killing OD+.

If that wasn't enough, the tray replacement docklet also tells me x64 support is coming soon.

Lastly, the CPU utilization running OD+ vs not running it - utilization more than doubles when running. With normal background tasks running, my CPU usage hovers somewhere around 4-7% all of the time. I run OD+ and it jumps to 23-27% and stays there. No other change in applications running, and I see OD+ at about 16% utilization. Exit OD+ and I am back to normal. I sat and watched CPU usage for about an hour with OD+ running (because I am starved for entertainment), and the whole time there was virtually no change.

THAT'S what leads me to believe there are fundamental incompatibilities between OD+ and Vista x64.

Back to the question at hand - is there some cleanup utility from Stardock to get this uninstalled since I can't get it out of there any other way (and am not about to muddy up the system further by installing Stardock Central and possibly not being able to get that uninstalled either)? BTW, everything else seems to be working (and uninstalling) OK, so I am reasonably certain it is not my system...

Dave:

I have OB+ and Vista Ultimate x64 running fine. Although, I'm running the BETA version of it, which is available through SDC. I know you want this off of your PC, but before that make sure you're running the latest beta build otherwise OD+ won't run right on x64 Vista. OD+ doesn't use my CPU at all. This may be a docklet and not OD+ so after you update disable all docklets via the troubleshooting option in OD+ settings. CD2 e6750.

Open SDC and make sure you check show pre-release versions in the lower right-hand corner to see the beta build of OD+. It should be this 1.90i[b].020
