Points createing a new ship design

Had a question reguarding the point system when createing a new ship design during play.At the top there you have X ammount points to allocate to a ship weapons,armor shileds ect.my question is how do you raise that ammount?

Either use a larger hull or research miniaturisation.

and after a certain miniturization tech, the hyperion shrinker is available, build it.

Is that all the research you have to increase that? or is there something else that can be built or researched as well? And thank you very much for the reply to my question
