The Press Is Unbelievable

Ok, now I think I have seen it all when it comes to the press media. I just sat here and watched a local news station story describing how bad it is that Florida hasn't been hit by a hurricane in the past two years. WTF? Are you kidding me?

They talked about everything from how citizens become complacent due to the lack of storms to how the local building supply companies suffer. Give me a break! It simply amazes me how they can take a good thing like no hurricanes and turn it into a negative story.

I find it hard to believe that there is so little news that they actually need to spend time fabricating such non-news. No wonder people have so little respect for so-called news.

Let me guess, this was a local news channel?  They are the worst at sensationalizing.  When I lived in Florida it was their wet dream for their to be a hurricane coming anywhere near Florida because then they could use it to pump up their ratings.  You know what makes people complacent is when local news act like we are in danger from storms that have no chance of hitting.  After dozens of times hearing the alarm sounded for no reason people start ignoring the alarm.

I guess the only thing worse for the press is when there isn't an alarm to sound.

Also less business for forensic accountants... Katrina kept us going a long time, but it's drying up.

I guess if home depot isn't selling wood to cover windows that could have a negative effect on the economy. Sorta like having an entire city wiped off a map in Lousiana could lol

Well I suppose it does make the media's job easier. If there isn't any story, just fabricate one. As long as they fill the air time they're good with it.

Sort of a jackass reporter, doing a story on lack of natural disasters. Would you think to hear or read of a story about, how it's an economy slowdown caused by lack of earthquakes in Cali?

Silliness.

I don't know which organization carried the story up here, but he morning news show did a piece on it.  The story was basically a lament about how people were growing complacent because of the lack of storms.

The news (and editorial) DJ's response?  Quit giving us alarmism year after year!  The last 2 years, each year, they have predicted a bunch of storms and doom and gloom (and of course nothing happened).  Meteorology may not be an exact science, but if you predict the worst every year, people come to expect it and to discount it.  The old "boy crying wolf" syndrome.  People get tired of hearing wolf after a while.

It's like the housing market, when the price of housing was skyrocketing, they reported how no one can afford homes anymore... now that the prices are coming down, they are reporting the crisis will bring us into a recession.

Life must suck for reporters since they can only seem to see bad in anything. Personally, I don't think it's life that sucks for reporters, reporters just suck. ;~D
