AI really needs to build survey vessles

Really

In my current game, I built about 10 survey vessels (tiny frame, survey pod, engine, nothing else). The AI has their flagship. I am bringing in a cash bonus most turns as well as the various tech ups and stat increases.

The AI never built them before, but you could clear the anomalies out early in the game and your survey vessels would need to be repurposed. Now, with the respawning anomalies, these ships are a very valuable investment. This gives the human player a major advantage.

Yep. Either that, or make anomolies not like winning the lottery early on.

I definately think some attention is needed here since they made them respawn. How about at least renovating them to GC2? For example, the "experience" or weapons bonuses are not worth anything in GC2. (unless you build a fighter with a survey module)

They DID mean some thing in GC, because the survey ship started out at 1/1 i think. That sucker would often be a serious contender mid-game. I remember reading a frogboy post saying how he used it in a "doo-little" raid...

I say bring back space monsters to keep player abuses on anomolies in check... (as well as some nerfing and just different ones)

IIRC it started at 0/1. But when it got an anomaly with weapons increase, I usually used it (and the fighter that also came out of some asteroids) as a deterrent of early colonizers of the nearby AI, to shut down its colony drive and took these planets for myself. Very powerfull tactics. I'm glad it's not possible in GC-2.

It does. I've seen some: small hull, some weapons, life supports and survey module. It has been quite a surprise to me. But at the game-time I met it, I already wiped most galaxy clean of anomalies.

Please realize your ships had speed 2-3. Survey ships of AIs had 4-5. So each covered almost as much space as two of your tinies, and went at least 4 sectors further as yours. If you put 5 AIs in the game, their survey ships took at least as much anomalies as you did, but likely more.

In the beginning of the game that may have been true, but I upgraded them all every time I could.

Mine are faster than that now (7). Mine are regularly beating them to anomalies.

Their one flagship (if it survived the wars) is not in the same league as my flagship plus 10 survey scouts.

Even if this were true (and I don't think it is), it is immaterial. What matters is that I grabbed more than any other AI (as opposed to all the AIs together). It's not like they are all sharing the resources.

I grab an average of 3 anomalies a turn every turn of the game now that they respawn. The AIs do not. They are lucky to get one a piece.

I have no evidence to back this up, but I do get a feeling that I am getting an edge (exploiting) over the AI when there are abundant anomolies.

Absolutely. I don't think anyone can argue that on a gigantic map especially. (and even more so if you're not playing against a bunch of AIs)

I personally see this as part of the reasons the thalains are so good. Its just way easy to crank out surveyors early.

Err, when I upgrade them, it most of the time takes 4 turns to do that. So I usually do that only once in a game, when I've taken most anomalies in range. While there's still a lot of anomalies, I can't afford to have surweyers off-line for so long. I have to compete with ships that have 60% better miniaturization than I have.

I grab an average of 3 anomalies a turn every turn of the game now that they respawn.

WOW! is that a current respawn rate? What game version and what galaxy size please? In my last DA 1.8c game and large galaxy it was not even close to that - I'd say 1 new anomaly every two-three weeks.
