Bored? Resurrect a thread!

Sometimes on a slow day here on the WC forums, I find myself flipping through the pages of my replies and posts (doesn't take that long as I only been here just over a year).

Today I dug back even further, to threads that were started long before I even knew what skinning was!

One thread caught my eye. This is posted June 14, 2001, where a member suggested supporting WC financially. Here's a quote from the Frog's mouth:

"Personally speaking, I would not be in favor of WinCustomize having any sort of subscription at this point. As long as there are other skin sites available like DeviantArt, there just isn't enough pressure on WinCustomize to justify anything like that.

The best route (I think) is to have T-shirts, CDs, and other optional goodies that users
can purchase that help support the site and the user gets something useful. Heck, if we ever had a hard drive crash and didn't have backups, maybe someone could loan us their WinCustomize CD! (just kidding)" WWW Link

Times change huh

Anyone got a favorite thread?

Yo, Po`....a very well written story...spinal issues are something I can very much relate to....

Five years ago it was only three, now I have six vertebrae in my neck with absolutely no discs between them....it's just bone on bone and painful as all hell 24-7 for 365 annually. I have a permanent and debilitating headache that I go the sleep and wake up with....if and when I sleep, and doctors tell me there is NO surgical procedure they WILL do to relieve my condition.

In essence, then, at 54, I am destined to the remainder of my life in abject misery because doctors in public health care refuse to operate....and being on a disability pension these days means there is no way on earth I could ever afford to pay $180,000 plus for surgery in a private facility. Health Insurance? Nope....can't get it! Or should I say, it's out of my reach because I am deemed to have too many pre-existing conditions and couldn't afford to pay 66% of my meager pension in considerably higher than regular premiums.

The Hippocratic oath?? Bollocks! It don't exist any more....not since bastard lil Johnny's Federal Government interfered too much in the State Governments public health systems. It's all about money now, not the provision of health care, and too many low to middle income people in dire medical circumstances are falling through the cracks .... like mrs starkers, but that's another (long) story.

That's not a good thing... pop too many and you become so immune to them that they do little or nothing to relieve your pain... and when little or nothing works, that's when you really know what pain is all about. Believe me, I was there and it was not at all pleasant.  It took a year or more of near abstinence from painkillers before I could feel their effect again.  These days I find that can manage my pain during the day, and generally I take pain medication only before bed unless it becomes pretty much unbearable.
