Twilight Bug: Games Freezes on Invasion

This e-mail reports a recurring bug that I've encountered with the beta of Twilight. I've reported this separately to [email protected], and attached a sample debug.err file and the save game file to that report. I am running SmartException, and nothing shows up in its log after this particular crash.

Briefly. the bug occurs when I try to invade another race's planets. I assign a a self-made troop transport to invade an enemy's planet. The initial screen comes up, asking how I want to invade. I click through that screen; the next screen shows the image of battle with the "Attack" button on the bottom. I click "Attack" and the system freezes. Usually, I can "Control-Alt-Delete" and end Twilight, but on occasion I have had to reboot.

The attached savegame has a troop transport in the upper corner, ready to invade an Arcean system. This game, and the attached debug.err, is the most recent of the games that I cannot complete because of this bug. I have tried invading different planets in this game, always with the same results. I have encountered this bug in other games as well, using both stock troop transports and against different opponents. I have been consistently playing as Terran, so have not tried to replicate this bug when playing as other races.

This is a game stopper. I have greatly enjoyed the early stages of Twilight, and think the game holds great promise. But this bug needs attention.

Let me know if you need further information. Thank you,

Alex Scherr

Ah, you beat me to posting this one. And here I had a save game all ready to send in when I got back from work today. Well I suppose I should send it in anyway, just have to remember to reference this thread.

I had a similiar crash, but it was when I was invaded, and I had bought a custom ship. Apparently, the game crashes the next turn because that ship is supposed to be finished (at least thats what I suspect is the problem).

Thanks for sending in the saved games.  I did find out what was causing the freeze and was able to fix it.  We'll be including the fix in our next update of the beta.

DivineWrath, your problem sounds like it is different from the freeze-up.  Do you have a saved game that reproduces that?  If so, please zip it and send it to [email protected] along with your debug.err file.  Thanks.
