[GC2 1.5] Odd problem with multilanguage copy

Hi,
I am long-time GC I player and - having just purchased a new PC - I bought, among other titles, GC II Polish edition. And after two days of playing I encountered first problem regarding not the gameplay itself but rather the game.
Being not a big fan of games translated into local version, after performing a small research I renamed the /Data/Polish directory to /Data/Polish2 (cunning, isn't it?). Ha, the game runs in English now and I am so happy. Pity, however, that after I had updated the game with Stardock Centreal I couldn't see no menus and no text in comboboxes and in dropdown lists and whatnot. Even the buttons on the main menu have no labels on them. I have uninstalled the game and downloaded it with SC once again. Same thing! Now, haven't just finished the third download - every single one of them was preceded with applying different mantra and trying different settings - I am bit pi*ed off for I still I can't see no text. I deleted the game's ini file, still with no success.
Forgive my somewhat unkind attitude. The game, however, seemed to be a bit buggy (at least its Polish edition in which, for example, during vote I had four, options to chose from A. Yes, B.No, C.Tak and D.Nie; Tak and Nie mean Yes and No, respectively) so I decided to move to English edition which I expected to be less susceptible to bugs.
Any hints?
