Flashes of Katrina

Watching the news......

I see videos of evacuees taking shelter in a stadium....and somehow I'm not surprised that the reaction to this natural disaster bears almost no resemblence to the post-Katrina era.

I just deleted a really long...but really harsh comparison between the pathetic response to Katrina and California's fires.....

I could list all the ways, but if you don't get it....then no amount of explaining ever will.

Something along the line of Black vs White? Poor vs Rich?

There's one major reason why the response went so much better in California than in New Orleans... In California they followed the Disaster Protocols.

There's another major reason why the response was so much better . . . In New Orleans they were largely minorities, whereas in California they were largely wealthy home owners.

someone had to say it.

How about, in California they had heard about the Katrina disaster so everyone pretty much knew that mother nature doesn't mess around.

Yeah, SC, we're all looking for every chance to "get darkie"!

Para is right. I DISTINCTLY remember the call going out to evacuate New Orleans TWO FULL DAYS before the hurricane struck! Was it a self hating black mayor who refused to mobilize the school busses? Or was it that, as Para said, they did not follow the disaster protocols.

Not everything is about race.

Nono, you're not thinking racist enough!

The minorities in New Orleans, being minorities and therefore criminals, all thought, "Hey, think of all the loot we can get if we're the only ones who stay." Then, everyone stayed and you ended up with a disaster. In California, the people just evacuated.

Yup, they were largely minorities. The Majority of people can think for themselves and not sit around waiting for the government to ride in on Grayhounds to the rescue. ;~D

Was that enough sarcasm to match your own? ;~D
