Mouse cursor doesn't appear in-game

I've installed Sins on two computers, one only barely meeting the minimum system requirements (a laptop), and the other slightly surpassing them (a desktop). On the laptop, once I start it up, it runs reasonably smoothly -- however, the mouse cursor is entirely invisible. Which is to say, I can click on things, but the cursor isn't actually drawn.

The mouse on the desktop appears fine, so this isn't a universal bug as far as I can tell. But on the other hand I doubt it has much to do with the laptop's lackluster hardware either since the game itself is fairly playable there besides the cursor being invisible. Any ideas what could be wrong or how to fix it?

Thanks.

is the cursor completely invisivle from the very beginning on or does it just quit moving after a couple of minutes?

I had the latter case with my laptop and installing the latest video card driver solved the problem.

do you have the latest version of directx on the laptop?

I have this issue on a supposedly very competent laptop, except the cursor flickers like mad when moving it around, otherwise stays invisible instantly. Driver's should be fine, and I'm double checking my direct X, but I think that should be fine too.

It may be time for a reload of the machine, but not looking forward to it, hope it doesn't come to that.

EDIT: Direct X 9 has an update this month, but that didn't fix it for me. This problem does not occur when I run in windowed mode, which is odd.
