Weekly Poll: The WindowBlinds 6 Plunge

Weekly Poll: The WindowBlinds 6 Plunge

Upgrade! Upgrade! Upgrade!

This week's poll is all about WindowBlinds 6.  It seems like a good idea considering it was released into the wild just yesterday to some pretty positive press.  What we're wondering is if you've made the upgrade from WindowBlinds 5, and if not, do you intend to?  Since WindowBlinds 6 represents such a major step forward for skinning with things like animated start menus and Vista visual effects for Windows XP, we're very interested in the general opinion on whether or not people think it's worth upgrading now or later (or never).

Expect the results next week.

hate to say it but I think there are some memory issues. When loading and unloading wb, i notice a longer delay that what I have been used to. Upwards of 40 secs.. I am also getting more memory related errors now since 5.92(b)(?) it doesnt feel as clean as the earlier beta.

Still a nice product...

WB6 : still giving me problem, even with the effort of neil still having problems, sometimes min, max close button dissapear. I should waited and read all the comments first before i jumped on buying WB6. I'll post a SS to stardock once I encounter it again....
End of quote

Ya I am getting wierdness with min and max on my blinds too. I get ghost images of the buttons that linger on the spot where the dialog box was. Ill restore the dialog box then reduce it again and the ghost image is gone. Im using the Leo skin(nice skin btw) and the nice colored buttons sometimes loose their colors. this is an XP box with current patches etc...

Does anyone know how to apply the Sidebar? I'll be damned if I can figure out how! Not that it matters too much; DesktopX comes with it's share of good sidebar widgets to use.

I un-installed WB 5, backed up all my skins, (in two places ), and installed the new WB6 on my Vista 64 bit system and no problems so far except that the sidebar will not update but it really doesn't matter. So far so good. Now just waiting for an update to Icon Packager so I can use that again. Good work Stardock!!! Very nice upgrade!!!

I actually got my Object Desktop subscription renewed just (75%) because of it!

Works like a charm, so far! - lucky for me too: forgot to backup, etc.

I've upgraded to WB6 and it's generally working fine (after the initial hassle with activation). First I installed it over WB5, but then on looking in the registry I noticed that some WB5 entries were still stored there, which I didn't like, so I uninstalled completely and did a clean install of WB6.

I'm especially pleased with the colour and font controls in the new version. I'm afraid I didn't care for any of the bundled skins, so I've deleted them.

I had to uninstall WB6 last night. For some reason it stopped skinning my task bar and no amount of reboots and skin changes would change it.

Vista 64-bit.

I'll upgrade when Stardock see fit to offer reduced price upgrade fees for longtime users. I have standalone WB (not object desktop) and I'll be damned if I'm forking out another $20 for v6. It would be nice if people who bought prior to feb 2007 were offered some kind of deal via email.

Tried to install the free version on winxp x64 and was told it was incompatible but works with vista x64 and try to a earlier version v5.5 or something.

why should it be up and running with vista x64 but not winxp x64 that has been around much longer?

I downloaded WB6 via Object Desktop. I had a problem when installing and was not thrilled about WB6 on Vista. After trying a few different themes I switched back to Aero. The see through taskbar was gone. When I tried to use the WB6 blur effect to try and make it look like it did before installing WB6, it didn't work either. Anyone else had problems with WB6 on Vista? It works great on XP!

I'd uninstall WB6 and reinstall.  I'm not seeing what you are.
