How do we balance the choices made for him?

Forgive me but I'm a South African and therefore not really entitled to question choices made by the US Government. I can't figure out why Ahmedinajad is allowed to speak to Columbia University but not pay homage at Ground Zero. Before you hurl missiles I believe the little Iranian has no right, as Rice said, to pay any sort of homage at Ground Zero. So why does he have the right to speak at a prestigious university? Are there double standards here? He has a right to speak for his country at the UN but why should he be allowed to bullshit students about "no need for nuclear warfare" et al. Do we not agree that the man is as conniving as a snake pretending to be dead? Do we not agree that the little man has a double agenda--as many of these little revolutionites do, and is playing fickle-mouse in Lion country?

This sneaky "axis" President who curses George Bush liberally, should have been walked from his plane to the UN, made his vitriolic stand (although you never know with hypocritical revolutionaries), and walked back to his plane again. Is Columbia University looking for some sort of prestige with it's choice of speaker or is it feeling out a bit of the truth? They will not get it.

If I remember correctly, the Iranians came out in force for the US as a result of 9/11... We have freedom of speech here, which should include anything Iran wants to say about ground zero, at ground zero.

As for speaking at a University, anyone who's not conservative is allowed.

the university is a private company sort of.


ground zero isn't. and he wasn't allowed to go because he would have probable ended up dead. which wouldn't exactly be a bad thing.

If Ground Zero were open to the public right now, the U.S. government basically wouldn't have a choice, but it is closed to the public, so hardly anyone who isn't on the contruction team gets to go to it now.

On the 6th Anniversary of 9/11 only selected people were allowed at Ground Zero. The memorial service was held a few blocks away.

Can you imagine the propaganda victory Mahmoud Ahmadinejad would have won back home if he were allowed there while most American citizens aren't?

It's pathetic that Columbia University has allowed itself to become a "useful idiot" for Mahmoud Ahmadinejad. How will it play back home when their press shows pictures of Americans protesting against Prs. Bush, but welcoming Prs Ahmadinejad with open arms?

Closed or not, the decision for ground Zero was made by the NY City Administration (specifically the Police).  They do not have that jurisdiction over Columbia University.

So the question is not really applicable since no one person dictates every aspect of life in the US.  Private Universities do not (nor would they ever) take direction from the President, and neither for that matter would NYC (which has a history of thumbing their nose at Washington - the only good thing about the city. )

So why does Columbia University insist that Ahmedinejad should be tolerated, but will not allow the ROTC or Military Recruiters on their precious little campus?

What are we to read from the fact that the guy running a country that is killing our troops in Iraq should be allowed on their campus, but OUR OWN TROOPS aren't?

The message is more than clear.
