Download Question

After lurking for more than a year I finally bought the game. And this has to be the most complicated download procedure I've ever seen. Finally got it figured out and the main game is being downloaded now.

My question is the movies. It is over 500 meg. With my satellite I'm only allowed about 350 meg a day. So when I encounter a large file I use Star download manager to get some each day. How do I do this with the Stardock manager? Thanks.

You can't use a separate DL manager with SDC downloads, but if your limit resets at midnight rather than over a rolling 24-hour period, you could probably just do it overnight (and if you can't, the movies aren't required to play).

Bummer. It's a 24 hour period. If I order the cd will all those files, including the movies, be on it?

Also, The main game file didn't simply download, it installed. How can I get all these files so I can save them to a dvd?

And isn't there a link somewhere I can download the movies with a download manager? Thanks.

If you order a CD (for DL or GC2Gold, anyway) you'll get the full retail box with everything that entails (so yes, the movies are on it, though the game itself won't be the latest version).

To make a backup, you can right click on the game in SDC and choose Archive Application->Selected Application to build a .sdc package for future reinstalls. You'll find the resulting file in C:\Program Files\Stardock\Stardock Central\BACKUP by default; just toss it on a disc with a copy of the SDC installer and you should be set.

Unfortunately, the game and modules are only available via SDC; there's no open-access download.

It will have the initial version, not the current version. But, updating to the current version doesn't require downloading nearly as much a a full install.

In SDC, rightclick the name of the game and select Archive Application... Put the result on the DVD. When you need to restore it from the DVD File->Restore Archive.

Ok, I'll think about the cd. I might be able to download the movies at the library or something and put them on a dvd. If I want to order the cd and pay the postage, how do I go about it? And does the cd have a printed manual with it?

Also, is there a printer friendly copy of the beginner's guide I can download, like a pdf or doc?

Since you've already got the game, you'll need to contact [email protected] and ask about it. Downloading the files elsewhere and bringing the archives home will work just fine, as long as you're able to install SDC where you will download.

There's no other format of the guide available that I'm aware of, but it should copy/paste into Word or something without too much trouble.

Just wanted to thank you for your help. Looks like I'll be able to take my wife's laptop to the library and use their wifi to download the movies. They might not be necessary to play the game but I think they'll add to the gaming experience.

Looks like a great game. With a super ai (important to me), devs who care (also important), and no on disk copy protection (wouldn't have bought if it did). I'll buy the other expansion when it comes out.
