Initial impressions of Beta 3

Initial impressions of Beta 3

Multiplayer is slow, but really fun.

Don't use random maps as AI placement on them sucks.

Love the new operations points settings for buildings and slots for the planets. However, if I build any labs on an asteroid place, there is no way to fill up all the slots unless I go all labs.

The cultural stuff was completely useless to have in the game. Computer never researched it. I never needed to build it. It was too expensive to build it for what limited use I would have gotten out of it.

Pirates are way overpowered now. Pirates were more of a threat than the AI on hard.

When starting a game, we still need access to the global chat room outside the game, as well as just the in-game chat room. Otherwise, it is hard to coordinate getting people to join.

Other than that, it is great so far. Will post more after a few more games.

Nothing has changed in terms of speed. I think that multiplayer has different speed expectations, we are aware of this and will be addressing it, however our focus right now is on technical problems (i.e lag, simplifying connectivity etc). We'll see what we can include for speed in an upcoming hotfix.

ok,

I am good on specs,

ram required is only one half something or other

and I have 1.5,

SO WHY DOES IT LAG?!?!?!?!?

it gets on my nerves, I need a way to pause the game.

As slow as it is, you really don't need the pause button, which is sitting on your keyboard labeled "pause".

I realize it is my Ram, I don't have the mimimum (I think(, so I tried to increase my virtual ram, it didn't seem to help (or I didn't notice if it did)

1.5 GB's is well within the required amounts for an XP system, its your use of a P4 processor thats bottlenecking your system. Also, virtual ram runs much slower than regular ram, all it is is space on your HD that your computer uses as memory. It isn't going to help you.

I can't tell you without more information, but I'm goign to guess your computer hasn't been properly maintained.

Go to windows -> run -> type in dxdiag -> check the page file line. If its significantly over 250, start playing from a clean boot.

Defrag your hard drive.

Scan for viruses (you do have an up-to-date virus scanner, right?)

Past that... I'm sure we can come up with stuff if that doesn't help you.
