WindowsBlind & StyleXP

Hmm...Problem!

Ok, first of all hi all.
I downloaded StyleXP few months ago. It will worked fine and so on. Then I decided to download WindowsBlind, after tested it I liked it, and have an opinion wether to buy it or not. I will probly be buying it in around a week or less(when trail is over). But then I noticed some glitches and problems with WindowsBlind. I decided to email stardock for support, as I have received answer that StyleXP may cause those glitches, and that I should unistall it, and replace the DLL that Stylexp replaced over the original one.
So, my question is, how I get the original DLL that Stylexp replaced after I unistall StyleXP? I realy want to buy WindowsBlind already, but first I need to fix these.

Thank you for your time.

Kaazz.

If there will be any need for pictures / discription of the glitches I will post here. Just ask if it's necessary.

A window repair is really the only way to properly replace it, If i were you, I would get some kind of Registry cleaner and scrub your registry for anything StyleXP, TGTsoft related after uninstalling StyleXP and then Install WB. You can always like NT said go back with system restore although I personally have never had much luck with that.

Me neither. A reformat will certainly do the trick.

What you mean system restore, you mean Format? And that's possibly my only way to replace my old dll?
Do you think I should post in their forums for help, maybe theres more solutions?

Use search to find all instances of uxtheme.dll. Rename these to uxtheme.old. Make sure you search hidden folders.

For the next part, have your XP CD ready.  Go to Start Menu > Run and type scannow /sfc
This is the Windows sytem file checker. When it finds what it will believe to be a currupt dll it will ask for the cd and replace uxtheme.dll from the CD.

Altenatively you can use a start up disk to boot into DOS and copy the file from the Windows CD to the relevant folders (not for beginners...)

Style XP does NOT replace the UXTHEME.DLL file or any other files on your system, it merely patches it in memory as Chubs39 said. I use both Style XP and Windowblinds on my system, and they work fine if you know what to do. Always disable Style XP before applying a Windowblinds skin, and always unload Windowblinds before applying a skin with Style XP and you should be fine. I did notice though a few graphics problems, specifically buttons in some windows if you have both Style XP and Windowblinds installed, but then again, even with just Windowblinds installed those same problems occur, so it is not Style XP causing the problem (hint, hint). By buttons, I mean the buttons in the Display Properties Window using the button background color around the button itself or having a black frame around them. Always been a problem with that.

Now, I would not suggest however using WB 6 and Style XP on the same system, because WB 6 messes up a lot after an apply, titlebars disappear, etc. and it does not minimize to the system tray area as it should. Which means that since there is no "Unload" button in the program itself, the only thing you can do to fix your system is to uninstall WB 6.

How doesn't it minimize to system tray as it should? I've been using that feature for a long time with no side effects? Or is that with Style XP installed at the same time?

Which means that since there is no "Unload" button in the program itself, the only thing you can do to fix your system is to uninstall WB 6.

You unload wb by either applying the default windows theme, or use the WB system tray icon and use the Unload menu item from there.
