First pass:
  • Let me skin it (Although that's some nice branding you got going on there)
  • Let me set it not to open to the welcome screen after first load
  • Make the SD logo a hyperlink to SD.com
  • Tool tips are friendly
  • Lower right corner of the pakcage information looks square instead of rounded ("This sound package is a collage . . .")
  • I would call the edit button Orange, not yellow as stated in the text above. I'd go with yellow if it weren't for the very yellow note icon to the left.
  • Got some sentences combined in the text of the "More Packages" Tab
  • It would be cool to see something like skin browser for Sound Packages on the "More Packages"tab. Otherwise seems like a lot of tab with little funcionality
  • I accidently deleted the first sound my trying to lower the volume level by clicking the red minus button. That's all me. I'm a doofus.
  • A "System default" package on the "Packages" tab might be intuitive.
  • A "Package curent theme" might be useful too if possible
Oh . . restoring failed (but I didn't have a sound scheme in place [Vista Business]). But nice reporting feature.
SoundPackager (Control + C to copy)
Restore Windows Default Error

SoundPackager cannot continue setting the Windows sounds to their Default settings.

Please include the following information when reporting this error.

Line 5

Now to go out collecting sounds. I think my first pass will be my kids. Too bad there's not a recording function in this thing. Might not be used much . . but could be fun.

Neil has a very good explanation of what those downsides are in the 'I don't want WB moving my skins!!!' thread

Indeed. His argument has a lot of merit. However, SoundPackager packages are meant to be edited by all, and easily. Additionally Windows' sounds are defined with the system on a per-user basis (Microsoft's choice, not ours). Because of this, they fall moreso under a per-user file. The good news is that we will be allowing users to choose the directory which SoundPackager looks for the SoundPackages, in the next beta.

A question, if I may, Andrew:

With Soundpackages being currently kept in my (pictoratus') Documents folder, wouldn't this keep other users from accessing those files?

With the current setup, it seems as if each user on a PC would need to download their own copy of say the Baseball package rather than a single downloaded package accessible to all users.
I'm thinking the Stardock folder under Shared Documents would solve this potential issue; which I think is where Neil was going with his explanation.

Perhaps individual user's sound profiles would go into their My Documents/Local Settings to keep everyone's settings separate, with a common area for the actual sound files/packages.

Then again, I could be wrong.

Kudos on the Directory choice coming in the next beta. More choice is usually better.

You can copy the soundpackage files to another location and load from there if you like.

How does Soundpackager know this new location? I could not find a setting anywhere to specify where the sound packages are stored after importing them. If there is a way to change the default location, I would be most grateful

That feature will be available in the next beta update. Unfortunately I dont have information at the moment on when that update can be expected.

I love the program.
If I want changes, I just open window's sound files in Control Panel and turn off or change the ones that I don't want.

I can't WAIT for more to come!!!
