So.

I was reading a collection of Far Side comics to take my mind off my pressing need to do some homework, and I stumbled across one that was just hilarious. Ernie is sitting in his armchair, reading the morning paper, and his phone rings. It's God, trying to call 555-5447. But Ernie's number is 555-5547 or something really close to it. So God hangs up. Top that off with the wondrous caption, "From that day forward, Ernie told everyone he had talked with God."

And it got me to thinking. What would that conversation be like? Sitting in my house, just doing whatever (perhaps traipsing through some more of Quijote, easily the best book I've ever read) and God were to either appear to me or call me up on my cell. What would he say? What would he do?

So it got me thinking about a scenario - and I wanted to pose that same scenario to all of you. If you could ask God one question - he/she/it is standing there in your living room - what would you ask?

Remember - you only get one chance here, so make sure you ask a good one - one that you're really dying to know.

I'll put my own question in the comments section, after a few of you have had a go at it. :D

I don't know that I'm capable of being that philosophical this morning.  I didn't want to blow one of your posts off though.  Okay, I guess I would ask if there is ultimate justice for all humans?   To elaborate would cause me to ask more questions so I'll leave it at that.

Very pensive, and very good.

These are both very similar to my second idea of what I'd want to ask. My first, of course, had to do with my future - all those juicy details I'm dying to know. But just like it sucks to ruin the end of a book or movie by hearing the denouement before enjoying the meat of the story, I decided I'm better not knowing what's in my future. (Although it would be kinda nice to know if there's a girl in my future anytime soon . . . it's been far too long. )

Then, as I explained, my second idea would be what I should do. And then I realized that I already kinda know what he wants me to do with my life, and we're actually pretty good on that account. He's already let me know the answer to that question, so asking again would be a)redundant, and b)a waste of a good question.

The third thought I had was, Well, maybe I'll ask some deep doctrinal question about the gospel and all that jazz - like, how do all those inhabitants of all those other worlds ('cuz let's be honest, people - thinking that God created all this universe just for our stupid little sucky planet is pretty selfish and predictable. Of course there's life - God's children - on other planets, too. To think otherwise is utterly self-centered and foolhardy) get saved? Because if WE need Jesus, and his sacrifice is as all-encompassing as that one book says, then how are THEY saved? Do they have prophets, etc. who tell them that some bloke died on another planet for them, or does Jesus (paraphrasing Ock in another article) take the whole show on the road and go say hi to those other peoples?

But then I realized that, given the circumstances, I wouldn't really ask anything that deep. And that's when the flash of inspiration came - I knew exactly what I'd ask.

"So, God, I know you designed these bodies and all, but why do we, as humans, grow nose and ear hair? I mean, come on, that's pretty sick, man."

Interesting blog Braeden! I've been thinking about it and I can't think of a very philosophical question that everyone would like to know. I've tried and tried...

However, there's one question that I would like to know for myself...."Why am I here?" I'm not talking the oh, you're a mom, and you haven't found your destinity yet or your calling...but....no, "Why am I here on this planet?"

Which would in no doubt lead to more questions that I hope he would answer!
