MV League Topic of Discussion thread

Hi guys. We certainly need to clear up a few points and rules before the next round and also if we are to get into the Altmeta.

Some Topics to open discussions,

Team victory bonus.

Bonus points RE - Slowest game
- 3,2,1 High scoring game

Non Submital

I'm sure there are many more. I have a few ideas myself, mainly pertaining to streamlining the league, but i wish to hold off and hear others points first.

So, debate away....

we're Celestial and Crusaders, our purpose is to defeat and subjugate the heretical pagan peoples of the other teams.

i pity the fool...

Hope is wasted on the hopeless and the elite care not for hope. We are the elite and we don't need "trash talk" to ascertain our dominance.

So I've sent invitations for all the characters that were in round 2 of the league. The Newcomers will have to tell me their character names one by one if they want their secondary characters in the league empire.

Again, this is not my take at building a glorious empire in the first place (although a good ranking certainly won't hurt our leagues publicity - but an attempt to store all the information in one place with little interference by communication - as is unavoidable in forum threads. It can't replace a forum post for a game but it can make checking the results easier.

Nobody has to participate in this empire - but if many of you do - it becomes clearer to our commishes were the relevant information is.

Oh. This is what you meant in the other thread.

Seems like a good idea. Actually similar to ghostwes original idea of seperate MV League Empires. However, having most characters in one place is a good idea. Of course, not everyone has a character dedicated to the MVL but It would be a good advantage if we could do it this way.

I think I'll join.

One point about this that we will want to start discussing shortly is that this could make the incorporation of the MVL into the AltMeta more straightforward. Kryo has expressed willingness to do this however, he does need us to have a clear idea of what we want to implement *before* he starts coding it. I'll open up a separate thread soon to discuss what we can do to get a nice display for the League into the AltMeta.

BTW I just posted my latest gigantic abundant and so now I'm free to start league game. Still have 9 days to go by my count. Midnight the 17th.

sounds like a great solution to the problem. i'll join: the character i'm using for MVL is named "The Blind Bandito".

Actually I am going to invent a new character for round 4 so I don't have to put my mixed character in - although it is good for now because a top 50 empire is easier to find.

It took me some time to figure it out - otherwise I would have done this earlier

Hey Everyone.

I might be out of the next round. This is mostly due to my now very limited play time(Sundays only I think). I will keep you guys updated but as of now my computer privallages have been mostly revoked by my parents and my extracarriculars.

TGE do what what you should and buy your own PC like I did. It may take a couple days work but it is worth it to keep your wife off your ass.

I have my own computer, its gaming capabilities are sub-par at best. I think it could handel Gal Civ 2, but of that I can't be sure yet.

Guys, just a quick generic post i am putting on most of our threads so no-one misses it..cheers.

We are getting a lot of new players and it is hard for me to keep up at the moment due to my time off, i am back now and will get things in order for round 4.

What i am going to do is a MVL Player Confirmation thread. I will list all names in there that i know of that are participating in round 4, if i miss anyone please post in that thread and advise me.

Also we will have to shuffle the teams a bit, and dare i say it...add a team f maybe!!

Whilst on the topic of round 4, does anyone believe any rule changes are needed? I will admit to being around alot for round 3 but everything seemed to go well. Please drop me a line or post somewhere if you think we need a change.

Looking forward to round 4...

The Commish.

Rule suggestion for ROUND 4 (definitely not ANY changes for the current round)

- Any game submitted in the submission thread is counted - if it has the wrong settings you get less points. Games of the wrong kind can not be counted as fastest/highest score - neither individually nor as part of a team average. They are just left out of that. (Just imagine mumble submitting a 800k game with the wrong settings: That would be -1 for wrong kind of victory, +1 for highest score, +2 for highest team score -->four credits for the wrong game!)

- Using submission time (posting in the thread, not end of game) as a tie breaker for highest score.
Contra: Busy people might be disadvantaged - they get to play one game only.
Pro: Most of us seem to be able to play more than one game per month (even people like me who play - edit: I meant "work, must be a Freudian slip - full time). But everyone has the natural tendency to wait till the end of the month, so you know which scores/times to beat. People could be induced to submit earlier by the time breaker rule - everyone would have to decide for himself if another attempt or an early posting is more important: another team/player strategy question, another interesting twist.

- clarification: posting games to the metaverse: What is a post?
Can we post more than one game per month to the metaverse and submit the best by posting to the thread or are we limited to sending one game/month to the metaverse for our MVL character?

- clear rules for newcomers in the middle of a round: How are 5th and 6th players treated (it is stated in the threads somewhere - but it must be crystal clear to newcomers who may not be willing to read all of our drivel).

You can submit as many games to your character as you want. The one you say is your submission to the MVL is the one that counts for your team.

- Any game submitted in the submission thread is counted - if it has the wrong settings you get less points. Games of the wrong kind can not be counted as fastest/highest score - neither individually nor as part of a team average. They are just left out of that. I thought it was this already like this. Games of the wrong settings do not apply for bonus points. They just get a +1 submission score not any of the fastest or highest score BPs.

- clear rules for newcomers in the middle of a round: How are 5th and 6th players treated (it is stated in the threads somewhere - but it must be crystal clear to newcomers who may not be willing to read all of our drivel).

Its not as much the 5th and 6th players as their time of arrival but their performance. It doesn't matter if you're the newest addition to the league(TheDoomBringer or Drengin or Dystopic), what matters is your score.

The player whose game is of the lowest score is "dropped". Their game still counts for team averages but they dont get any MVL points. Not even the submission +2.

This part is still under discussion(I think), that if the player with the lowest score manages to pull off a 1 year win while his score was 10,000. The 2nd lowest score in the 5 or 6 man team is 15,000 but is a 3 year win. And that player acheived the fastest time of, say, Technology win in the league. But since that player's game is dropped, he can't be eligible to recieve those bonus points for the fastest "Beyond Mortality" game.

Hope this clears it up.

I think Fire covered most points here, but yes clarification of rules for newcomers is a must.

Before i had my marathon work schedule i was in the beginning of writing up a MVL Rule book. 1 post just the rules, nothing else. I will get back to this based on the rules we play with for round 4 as i think they (the rules) will be fairly concrete and would remain for some time.

As for the 5th and 6th person, i actually hate having these but it is the nature of the beast mid round or when there are too few players to make another team. For round 4 we can move beyond these confusions and have an extra team..or two.

With Xei Win's sabatical until TA arrives we have 24 players for round 4. 6 teams of 4 players each sounds great to me and eliminates any dropped games or the like. Each player has contributed fairly and equally.

This is how i would like to move forward with round 4.

Please guys as always voice your opinions, for or against and how we should divide the current teams to create the new ones.

The Commish.

my preference.

in anticipation of that arrival, i thought i'd point out IIRC the MV for TA will support mods and custom maps/scenarios - just something to think about.

I've stated before my views on team size, but just for clarification, i find a 5 member team the most suitable, as while 4 can cover the possibility of if we have a round with separate victory settings, a 5th person allows for a certain flexibility, especially if there's a non submittal. Above that is too many cooks, not enough food in the pantry.

I agree with teams of 5 for the moment.

I prefer teams of five as well.

One clarification on the bonus and "dropped" games. It's my understanding that the team gets to chose which score is dropped and it isn't necessarily the lowest raw score. As FB pointed out, a higher score 3 year game (assuming no bonus applies) should be dropped in preferance of a 1 year game that would otherwise get a bonus point. This does leave things slightly ambiguous as to whether or not dropped games are eligible for individual bonus. It's my opinion that they should be but the point is rather moot. For this to be an issue a team would need to have 5 games all of which could receive a bonus point. If this actually does happen than we will need to discuss this but I think the chances are remote. However, going forward we do need to have a clear rule regarding this.

Basically, a score is dropped only to provide fairness to teams of differing sizes. However it is clear that dropped scores (of the correct win) are averaged for team bonuses and therefore count for team bonuses, I don't see how it really hurts to also allow a dropped score to compete for individual bonus. I therefore support individual bonus for dropped games. However, I think we have already all agreed that only wins of the correct type are eligible for bonus so clearly dropped games would need to be a win of the correct type to participate in any bonus, team or individual.

I also agree with teams of 5 for now. We're still pretty fluid as a league and the extra player gives us the flexibility that we need IMO.

I'll, of course, defer to whatever decision that the commissioner makes. (I'll even be quiet about it this time).

I agree with you Mumble. Dropped scores are in regard to the 2 points on offer for correct game victory. They count for team average and should count, if eligable for any bonus's.

Let's let the teams decide which 4 out of 5 games they wish to have counted. Ok.

I also am fine with the 5 per team rule as it seems that is the wish of the majority.

P.S

Anyone notice when i became a veteran? Also is that an automatic thing, based on time active, or has Kryo seen it in his heart to grant me this kind promotion?
Congrats Neilo . The forum promotions are usually instituted by Kryo or one of the devs AFAIK.

I agree with the 5 man teams and the above mentioned bonus setup for the dropped games.

It's definitely not automatic, it's as DethAdder mentioned based on Kryo and/or one of the dev's feeling that you are somehow worthy. This is generally based on "service to the community" which is certainly embodied by your work as Commissioner. Congrats.

I'll say something here - I've been lurking in the MV League threads for a long time, since the idea was first proposed - I've gone through more than I should probably, I remember reading through the entire thread that was all of you trying to consolidate scores for the first round, haha.

One of the things that's really put me off from joining in the past, among more nitty-gritty things (like you guys pulling out Super Abilities) has been, believe it or not, the bonuses. I play for fun, and I have a lot of fun with this game, but I've never once played to try to win as fast as possible, or with as high a score as possible. You may want to consider this line of thought, as I may not be the only one sharing it - at the same time it would be a bad idea to not have any way to differentiate between scores, because we can't have multiple winning teams - But it's something for you guys to mull over, I suppose.
