Lighting a Candle

In hopes of a better tommorrow..

We all get up in the morning hoping for a better day than yesterday. Unfortunately it hasn't come.

We read the morning paper, turn on the TV, listen to the radio, even read our email and we are confronted with the bad news.

Mother nature is hitting us again with floods, heatwaves, earthquakes and hurricanes. People are at risk for no other reason just because where they are. Wars are taking our youngest and brightess, our sons and daughters. Health issues take people we care about without any warning or reason.

Then we receive news that a friend has been touched by this and we realize that it touches us all, no matter where it happens or to whom.

Some of you may feel that a post like this doesn't belong here. If not in a community of friends, then where?

Would you light a candle and put it by mine?

Appreciate you stopping by Musical-Mayhem. If only a few candles get lit I'm sure they will be bright.

Thanks for stopping by RoseNell. The more candles we have lit means more light to do away with the dark.

My friend, a candle will give but a little light to your darkness, you need to bring in the light of the world.
(John 8:12) "Then spake Jesus again unto them, saying, I am the light of the world: he that followeth me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life."

The fact is that without accepting Jesus as your Saviour, you will always be in the darkness of this world and all the sorrow that it contains.

I hope (and think) that this is not the case.

Thinking like that just causes more darkness.

If this is all it takes to make someone feel stronger, then they are welcome to both this candle and my best wishes.

Jack, this goes beyong where faith and beliefs take you. As an adult I have realized that when looking for the answers we always stop short.

Zubaz, I hear you.

Alternate Setting, this isn't so much about being stronger as it is about caring and understanding.

Appreciate you replies.

Religion has caused many people much sorrow. To each his own, but to make a comment like that is going to incite people, even if not meant to do so.

I agree.

I kinda figured that's where the strength comes from. Still it's a non-judgemental candle so take from it what works for you.

So as to try to get this thread too off topic . . . There are many ways to bring light to the world.  Living the life Jesus requiered is one way.  There are many and depending on your faith  . . there may be benefits after this life.

A friend of mine is fond of saying "Pray as if everything depended on God; Work as if it all depends on you."
Think well of others and do good works.  Pray or think good thoughts or meditate or whatever.  There is a pay-off in this life for sure.  I'll let the next one take care of itself in it's own time.

Today is a good day.

Look well to this Day
For it is Life...
the very Best of Life!
In its brief course lie all
the Realities and Truths of Existence
the Joy of Growth!
the Splendour of Action!
the Glory of Power!

for Yesterday is but a memory
and Tomorrow is only a vision
but Today  IF LIVED WELL*  makes
every yesterday a Memory of Happiness
and every tomorrow a Vision of Hope
LOOK WELL THEREFORE TO THIS DAY!

(Ancient Sanskrit Poem)

Now back to you Philly .  . . sorry for straying off-topic(-ish)

Thank you to all the folks that replied.

When I was thinking about whether to post this there was no special reason for it, just a reflection on how I was feeling at the moment. Then I received an email that caused me to type my thoughts and post them. (Go back and read the op.)

My personnel opinion (and that's all it is) is that most of the things we get so concerned about and have such strong feeling for (Religion, Race, Borders and such), well in the big picture, don't really mean alot when someone anywhere is hurting and needs help. I think somewhere that's called the human experience.

Thanks for listening.
