Portable Object Desktop/Skins/Themes/Icons/etc.
from
Stardock Forums
Yeah, you got a newbie here.
I just bought Object Desktop and I am currently installing it on my Toshiba Satellite, though I plan on removing it and installing it onto my new HP dv9500t in a few weeks when it arrives.
Anyway, I love playing around with new, odd, off-the-wall stuff. I have recently been playing with Ceedo (it came with my Lexar Jump Drive Lightning) and Portable Apps. Both are great programs that allow you to install certain programs (apps, utilities, etc) onto portable external USB drives.
So, has anyone tried to install Object Desktop onto an external drive? Is it possible?
You see, I work on many different computers, work, home, travel, etc. and I would really love to be able to install some themes, skins, icons, etc. onto a portable drive and take them with me to use on different machines, instead of lugging around a 8-9 lbs. laptop.
I know it sounds odd, but ultimately, what I would like to do is ditch the laptop all together when I travel and just bring along a small 250GB Western Digital Passport drive.
So can it be done? If so, what restrictions or special considerations would I need to look out for.
If it can't be done, is there any chance that Stardock might look at a small stand alone portable application that could do a few cool tricks, skinning, icons, themes, etc. It really wouldn't have to be anything major, I'm not going to be building or developing themes or icons. I just want to be able to load some themes and stuff on my drive and run it on whatever PC I happen to be using while I am away.
Thoughts? Experiences?
