Ship designing problem

so when i try to create a new ship design i can put all the things except extras.. why is that? i have V 1.5 DA

Extra pieces can't be auto-placed using the button. You need to click on one to 'pick it up', then place it where you want it by clicking on one of the red arrows (hardpoints) in the 3d view.
