Narrowing Down a Hobby

A few months ago Brad announced his adventures in beekeeping, and that really inspired me to find a hobby.  I spend almost countless hours behind the computer screen, and while I have started working out again (another story) I wanted to find a hobby I could do to get myself out a bit more.  The hardest part for me is trying to find a hobby I would really enjoy doing.

I have never really had hobby which I took really seriously.  I have tried several things, but for whatever reasons they just didn't interest me after a while.  One of my earliest interests was radio controlled cars and airplanes which I did enjoy, but after a while it gets to be so much maintenance of the equipment than actually using and playing with the stuff.

In more recent years my latest activity has been Martial Arts.  I really enjoyed teaching and training in Tae Kwon Do and eventually got all three of my kids involved as well, but after numerous injuries and a few health problems I had to give it a rest for a while.  My good friend recently opened a new school here and I help him out with his belt promotion events and such, has been encouraging me to train with him again, so that's another option I have.

The other option I have been looking into is photography.  I have always enjoyed taking photos and I live in Florida where there is not a shortage of scenery of all types.  I have a decent camera, and love to take pictures of local events that we participate in, but I would really like to have a digital SLR.  I might just have to start saving a little here and there and pick one up.

Well those are some of my options, and I'm trying to explore others and really take interest in something that will get me out of the house a little more.

Try geocaching. If you like hiking at all you'll be hooked in no time.

I have a hobby - model trains.  But I have not had the space for it in a long time. It stil sits boxed up in my computer room.

Good luck with yours.

Martial Arts Photography! Take pictures of Martial Arts, and then you're already there and can get training. Oh, and pictures of all the people you defeat can line your bedroom walls, with a giant poster sized photograph of your arch nemesis.

Ha!  Yeah, aside from family photos I have a huge collection of pictures from my Martial Arts days.

You can see a few examples here.
