Battlefleet Gothic

Battlefleet Gothic

I don't know if any of you guys are a fan of the mini's genera. Did anyone here ever play games workshops short lived Battlefleet Gothic.

That game was pretty fun.

Some of the stuff I liked from there.

1. Massive torpedoes

Were talking about ship killers that you had to move the ship out of the way from and could use to move other guys ships out of areas that you wanted to go into.

2. Boarding action

You could fire "boarding torpedoes" and basically take over a ship or failing at that sabotage large sections of it.

3. Ramming / Fire Ships

Some ships could ram it was pretty sweet some could also function like a big torpedo.... that was awesome.

4. The ships had sections you could knock out an engine ... that was pretty cool.

5. Ships could really blow up

As in they would implode and take down anyone who happened to be near them that was pretty awesome.

6. Some ships as i recall could use gravitic and solar wind effects

I'd love to help out, but I'm a below-average modeler, mediocre programmer and I suck door knobs at skinning. But I can cook!

Heheheh...I can't model, can't skin, and can't program...but I know the setting and play a mean saxophone. We're even!

But I can do any generic writing that needs to be done. Descriptions, flavor text, anything that doesn't involve asthetics or binary trees.

This is one of the reasons I bought Sins. I knew smart people would be making great mods for it. Do you have any ETA for the project, or is like Duke Nukem, ready when it is ready?

Erm...let's just say that it should be done by the time the Gothic War actually happens.

Don't worry, we'll have a playable release out eventually, and a ugly bare-bones testing version out fairly soonish so we can figure out how to balance the whole thing. I think a testing version limited to chaos would be a good idea because they're so big on long-range broadsides and don't use torps much, so they neatly bypass most of the issues we really need the mod tools to fix. Most of the imperial stuff would work as well, but the models and stuff aren't complete quite yet, but an in vs chaos starting version would be nice to have for testing purposes, and apart from placeholder torps, wouldn't really need the mod tools to be functional.

We are looking for skinners, and I think we should put our mod on moddb and other index sites so we can (hopefully) get a good (again, hopefully) skinner.

Also, ideas for eldar are just for the future, they won't even be in the first release, so they won't delay that.

look i dont know much about anything at all but im thinking for like capital ship factories for chaos i reckon it should be 6 black and red seperate rings just floating in space with warp stuff at it center connected by purple/pink lightining i now its complex but it would be an icon to the chaos gods. the imps one should seem like a really bulked up version of the tec factory but should feel or look ineffiecent. the tau should look really efficent and robotic. the eldar would have webway gates nothing like chaos's and i think should be a pale or white colour. the necrons should be cold, dark and scary with glowing green and gold hieroglyphics (you know like the ancient egyptians but mostly featureless. the orks factory should be rude, crude and look really shoddy. the dark eldar if you do it would be the exact opposite of the eldar with back and purple being the favorite colours. if you do the tyranids wich i dont think you will make them feel and seem organic. i know it maybe hard but it would make it deep and like BFG and Warhammer 40,000.

LOL!

On another note, I think FEAR100's idea for the ship construction factories works especially the Eldar: Big Floating Webway...of course!

Yes, I think we'll use that big chaos building inert showed off earlier as the chaos shipbuilding structure, and they will summon ships from the warp. I think the eldar might build their ships with a bonesinger, because the corsair ships are actually built of wraithbone when needed(see void stalker fluff), but the craftworld ships should come from the webway because they tend to maintain vast fleets and just bring in the ones they need to fight their wars.

Chaos Lance Platform (& base for the other two)

And also a generic building, originally started out as a temple but my mind's gone blank, so does anyone else have any ideas for it? :P

1. HAWT!!!

2. I'd say temple, it's got all the makings of a temple. An alarmingly phallic spire, but what temple is complete without one? ;) Maybe bulk out the rest so it looks less like a candlestick.

temple works for me ...nice job!

Let me rephrase that, rather what could I add to it to make it look more like a temple? Besides making the Emperor's pointy stick a little more subtle.

Perhaps a few things that look like docking bays, adorned with chaos paraphenalia. You know, stuff to make it look more...habitable.

Hmm how about putting some of those pointy fin things that are on Chaos ship models.

As seen here on this Chaos Despoiler Battleship (which I happened to purchase a couple days ago!)

Kiernyc, I thought you played Tau! Aun'va will not be happy with you.
I do, but the store didn't have any Tau ships and I thought the Despoiler was cool looking so I got it lol :p

Kiernyc has this fetish for Slaanesh you see...

;p Actually Kiernyc just likes to waste money. Next time I scrounge up a few bucks I'll buy a grand cruiser. They have funny prows lol

-shakes finger-

Nah, sorry, I'll get off your case.XD

But really, the Imperial ships are more to my taste. Necrons too, maybe...easier to paint.

Back on topic. I think we need to start with the organization with unit lists. This is a question to the programmers: what kind of ships can you guys do? Designated combat ships? Ships with special abilities? Or do you want me to make the lists and you guys see what you can do with it?

Xthetenth, if I could be so bold as to requisition your help in that? You know what is reasonable from a programming standpoint much more than I do. Anyone else who would want to help is of course free to join in, and if I ever start to be an autocratic jerk about it just raise the red flag

well, I'd say make some other bits that stand out vertically from the base, such as an eight-pointed star, seeing as chaos can never get enough of those, and bulking out the tip might do wonders, because nobody finds those orthodox towers in russia suggestive. Also, just lowering the size and making the transition between the base and spire less abrupt should help.

What exactly do you mean by unit lists? if you mean all the units in the game, that'll be part of the features list, and just wait a little bit for that, it's almost done. If you mean the list of combat ships (the special abilities will generally be torpedoes and generic special orders, so that's not a big deal, there's only a few exceptions), then I've got the one for the first release right here, but the formatting's going to be thrown to hell. Perhaps we can make a new thread so we have an OP to edit, maybe with a [total conversion] tag at the front. Here's the list of all the ships whose .entity files (the stats that make them work) are done except getting their model plugged in (they're still using placeholders):

Chaos: (ships generally are fast, with heavy ranged firepower, strong cruisers)

-Planet Killer

Battleships:
-Despoiler Battleship (carrier battleship with ferocious prow lances if you want to risk closing)
-Desolator Battleship (fast battleship with powerful lance broadsides and heavy prow torps)

Grand Cruisers:
-Repulsive Grand Cruiser (powerful broadside wbs and prow torps joined by lances close in)

Thrawn was LYING...I don't like Slaanesh...Tzeentch is my fav if i had to pick one (cuz he's all bird-ish and Pink Horrors are funny :p )
And the magics that rock! don't forget those.
pff, lies, khorne owns all, blood ftw!
will you also add your own ship types? some races have a dubious amount of ships, frankly.

Also, my Tau ships are Farsight ships so Aun'va isn't happy with me anyway...
