Couple of Questions

1) other than giving you better trades, what does diplomacy do? does it help you achieve better relations with AI opponents? Im playing as the terrans and no one has attacked me. My military is awefaul, embarassing even and i have 2 races that are close a few that are friendly one thats cool and only the Drengin are hostile. Even I waould have attacked me by now. So is it my great diplomacy thats making everyone kinda like me?

2) is there a way to rename a starbase? id like to name my econ bases for the areas that they are helping so when the screen asks me if i want to update ill know if i want to. some dont need any trade modules and i cant remnember if base 1234 has any trade routes through it.

Only part I am sure of is answer 2 cause i use it all the time.....

You can rename bases...when you highlight the starbase, there is a little icon in the upper right of the highlight of the starbase, click on it and you can rename it to whatever....i usually use completed starbase, but i could get more creative like "17% prod" , or "17% prod 10% trade" so I know what i need to do with it...someone may have a neat algorithm already set up for that so you can efficiently know the status of the military stuff also, but all i'm usually trying to get is whether i should send something to it or not, so i name it completed or finished....hope that helps.

As for the first part, I'm about where you are, its a feel good thing, I feel better having more diplomacy, but i don't know exactly why...

diplomacy helps you get better trades, like you said. This will in turn help you get better relations, because making trades does slightly increase your relations with a race, or you can give gifts, which will seem really valuable so they will like you more. Finally, you make alliances by trading an alliance treaty, so again, it will come more cheaply to you.

right, but i wasn't asking how to get better relations. I was wondering if my good relatiuons were based solely and directly on my extreme diplomacy. I havent made any particularly great gifts and I've got 4 of 9 civs at close relations. And like i said, my military is pitiful.Well maybe its still better than the torians.
