Interface questions

Just got the gold edition and am enjoying learning how things work. I do have a couple questions on the interface I was hoping someone could answer:

1. On the planet screen, it seems that the only way to see details on an improvement is to add it to the build queue. I'd like to preview its build time, maintenance cost, bonuses, etc. before actually adding it to a particular square on the planet. Is there some way to preview this info that I'm not aware of?

2. When designing a ship in the shipyard, is there a way to see a summary of what modules have already been placed on the ship other than looking at the icons along the top of the display? When a ship is in space, you can access the information screen which lists out all the modules and their effects, but it seems there is no simple way to get the same information in the shipyard.

3. Let's say I have a big ship with lots of stuff on it and only want to upgrade its weapons. Is there a way to upgrade by only deleting current weapons and then adding new ones, or do I have to go through the whole process of adding all of the other modules (engines, etc) to an empty base hull (which seems to be the case when using the 'upgrade' button)?

4. I can't seem to get the planet launch direction button to work reliably. Am I supposed to left click, right click, or double-click to set direction where a fleet should launch?

1. If you single click the building, it should tell you what it does in the little space just to the left of the list of structures, including build time etc.

2. I dont think so, if there is I havent found it.

3. You can save that ship design, and when you are ready to upgrade JUST weapons, go to the shipyard, pull up that schematic, remove the current weapons and add the new ones. That will save a LOT of time.

4. Left click the little icon in the window that shows what is orbiting the planet and it should pull up little highlighted squares around the world. Then left click again where you want it to launch. This can be different for every planet. So just because you set it on your homeworld doesnt mean it will launch there on some other planet.

Note that you'll also want to disable the 'remove functional components on upgrade' option in the game's settings. Whether you use that option or not mostly depends on if you do more incremental upgrades, or complete overhauls.
