Approval Rating problem - help a new player?

Hello everyone. Well, I purchased GC II DL and DA about two days ago. My biggest problem so far in the game has to do with keeping my approval rating up. I've only tried making custom races, those of which I usually spend most points on making my citizens loyal, naturally frisky, and naturally joyous.

It seems like though on my homeworld, or any planet above Class 8, my approval drops to around the 50-60 percent range in weeks. On a planet that is of a low class rating, it almost ALWAYS is at 100. On my homeworld or other high end planets, I tend to just build 2 factories, about 2 farms. A couple research labs and about 2 of the entertainment networks which barely help at all. Even lowering taxes just doesn't cut it.

Can any of you lend me some eye-opening, insightful advice? Thank you ^_^

I would suggest dropping the loyalty bonus and going for morale instead.

Also note that many of the morale techs have a built in morale bonus that you get just for researching the tech (displayed in the tech description), without building any buildings, this is a tremendous help.

Note that there is a cliffing affect for morale on taxes. There are big morale penalties every time you cross a nine. I.E. 59 to 60. So, ideally, you want to have your tax rate end in a nine:
39
49
59
69

Of course, try to get the galactic morale resources and wonders...

Expect your population to naturally cap with a lower morale somewhere between 12 and 20 billion people.

Balancing the economy/morale is one of the most difficult things to do in this game. Once you have it down, you are more than halfway there.

Just take out one of the farms, and don't put any farms at all on your homeworld (the capital gives extra food). Your morale problems are most likely just due to overpopulation.

Thanks that really helps out alot actually. I just completed my first game, and tended to always have an approval of 69-81 before I started laying waste to other worlds. Thanks for the help everyone ^_^

u can also build troop-ships, getting (early game) 1500 peeps of planet does help on morale. Later in the game i build troop-transports that carries 12000

This is good for 2 things: A) U get higher morale on planets due to lesser populations.
B) U get a bigger invading-fleet. (which again can scare pesky aliens frome attacking u since they see ure emence millitary power).

As Kyro says, I generally have three Entertainment on home world and two on others with only one Farm (none on home world) by third upgrade to Morale building I am at 100% except on homeworld which is about 80%
