Is Your Religion Wounded?
The Pope Says It Is
http://www.cnn.com/2007/WORLD/europe/07/10/pope.churches.reut/index.html#cnnSTCTextAs a disclaimer, I should comment that I am pretty much against the Catholic Church. I have a little list of reasons:
1) The Inquisition by example of the systematic rape, torture and murder of millions of Jews throughout the Church's history.
2) The suppression of scientific thought and philosophy over the last two millennium, using murder and brutality as its major tools. Look at Galileo. In order to accept that no Pope is never wrong, you also have accept that the Sun goes around the Earth.
3) The Albigensian Crusade or Cathar Crusade. the 100 Years War, etc. as examples of the Church using military force against other Christains.
4) The Reich Concordat of 1933 allowing Hitler free rein in exchange for protecting Church interests.
5) The participation in the genocide in Rwanda by priests and nuns, who were only too willing to step aside to allow the slaughter of innocents.
6) Hundreds of years (no kidding or exaggeration) of tacitly permitting the sexual abuse of parishioners, specifically including children, by priests. As I pointed out in the discussion here Link the Church acts only to protect itself, is not at all concerned about victims rights and gets away with it. The Church acknowledged the problem over 250 years ago.
When Ratzinger was a Cardinal, he helped conceal the severity of the problem. And this is the man that has the audacity to say that you are "wounded" in your beliefs if you do not acknowledge him?
