This is what it says......

Your computer has a Windows Experience Index base score of 1

Your Windows Graphics Experience score is 1

WindowBlinds version : WindowBlinds 5 (5.50 (build 100 x86 - Vista Edition))

WindowBlinds is installed correctly on this PC

WindowBlinds appears to be activated on this PC

(Generic PnP Monitor) 1 is attached to Standard VGA Graphics Adapter

Wblind.dll 2007/02/21 16:07:20
Wbsrv.dll 2007/02/21 16:08:05
Wbconfig.exe 2007/02/21 15:06:33
Wbload.exe 2006/09/30 13:59:14
Wbhelp.dll 2004/09/18 15:37:07
Tray.dll 2006/04/28 18:27:49
Wbload.dll 2007/01/23 18:48:56

PLEASE report all this information when submitting a problem report. We don't know what's in that Dell you bought last July. Per-pixel skinning requires your hardware has WDDM drivers and a graphics experience score of at least 2

I also have Windows Vista Ultimate, and installed the same build and version of WindowBlinds and have the same problem .. Any solution found yet?? I would appreciate the reply

The "shareware" version has a time limit. After this time period you will only be able to use the XP OS skins.

This sounds very similar to the problem I posted regarding Windowblinds 5.51, though I'm running Windows XP.

I can start Windowblinds 5.51 manually and chose a skin. Everything is fine until I reboot. Windowblinds won't start after a re-boot and Windows defaults to classic mode.

I've reverted back to verson 5.50 until I figure what's going on. The only way to revert back was to restore from a back-up. Unisntalling 5.51 and re-installing 5.50 did not eliminate the problem casued by the 5.51 installation.

It's a computer. If everything ran right, that's when to start writing stuff in forums.

I have this happen to me also on my winxp machine and I have several dozen different themes downloaded & installed from other wc authors along with my own. Windowblinds works properly for the most part as I can go through my list of wb skins and apply any showing up in my list, however there are those rare instances when I download a skin from the site and attempt to apply it after downloading it and it appears to go through the process of applying the skin but when it's done I end up in classic mode and I have to go into wb config and apply another skin to verify that wb is working properly.

The last time this happened was with Vienna XP by vStyler, I know the skin works properly but I accidentally turfed the skin from my collection recently and went to download it again after which I applied it and presto chango, Windows Classic - wooo hooo!!! (obviously I wasn't as happy as this, instead of wooo hooo it was more like WTF?!)

Hello Rob -

We chatted some by e-mail regarding you skins. Been a few months and since I'm incognito here, you might not recognize me

Are you running WB 5.51? The problem we're seeing did not start on my system until I installed 5.51. Unisntalling 5.51 and re-installing 5.50 did not fix the problem. I had to recover the old version by restoring from a back-up.

I've never had a problem with a SD application before so am very interested in finding out what's happening. It may be skin specific and related to the new code, hence so few users are posting about it.

I spoke with Stardock Tech Support about this issue twice this week and the individual I spoke with was unaware of this problem nor a solution. From his response I assumed the problem was specific to my set-up. I no longer believe this.

I believe the problem is rooted in the changes made to WB 5.51. The problem occurs with both Vista and XP. Not everyone's set-up is susceptible to this problem. If it were, the forum would be busting at the seams.

The changes that WB 5.51 makes during installation are not reversed by the program's uninstall utility. That leads me to believe the change is rooted in the registry or by a file copied on the hard drive and not removed during the uninstall. Uninstalling 5.51 and re-installing 5.50 did not reverse the problem for me. Others may be more lucky.

Stardock Tech Support suggested I post on the forum in hope one of the more technically savvy posters would have a solution. I'm still hopeful that will occur. In the meantime, I agree with the poster who recommended contacting Stardock Tech Support. Best chance to find a solution is to provide more data to the developer.

Don't think so.

Don't think folks might be having a problem with WB 5.51? Why because you're not experiencing any issues?

OK i finally got this solved. To recap my prob for everyone...first i had the annoying activation problem, then i had the prob with the classic theme, then i reinstalled and got to the prob with it asking to reboot....i finally got pissed and reinstalled the program with my internet security (bitdefender) and anti spyware (counterspy)disabled and it seems to have fixed the problem.i also disable both when applying a new skin and it seems to work fine now.i hope this helps others out with this problem.....

1.disable any anti virus/anti spyware

2.reinstall..(i didnt bother to uninstall i just went right over it)

3.exit both AV and AS when applying skins.

Pentjakmagick - you may be on to something. I also use Bitdefender (anti-virus only) and have a problem similar to yours. I'm able to get version 5.51 to install, but it will not start on a boot-up. I have to start WB manually and re-choose my skin after every start-up. Because WB won't start initially, my system always starts in Windows Classic style.

I installed 5.51 with Bitdefender disabled and all Bitdefender services stopped. The only Bitdefender background activity that can't be easily turned off is the Bitdefender Management Console. That runs silently in the background.

I wonder if by turning off Bitdefender I was able to install WB okay, but now that WB is installed it conflicts with Bitdefender activity on start-up?

You say your problem is fixed. Have you re-booted after you installed WB and picked a skin to run? Is WB starting up on a re-boot? Have you looked at the Appearance tab in Display Properties (you're using XP)? Does it show your chosen skin name in the Windows and Buttons box? Sure appreciate you sharing what you see.

Thanks,

Sounds like a NAP problem in sorts. But it is more likely to be security settings for user in properties for .exe files and other files needed by WB. You may have installed a firewall in the past and uninstalled it - but the regs where not converted back to the original state. Sometimes this can be a bad problem with both XP and esp. Vista! Vista also has a way of doing things with defender that if it does not operate correctly due to a shut down by like same enviroments as a firewall or anti-virus system or security suite. It has rights management problems unwritten from regs and they can not be rewritten correctly with just a reinstall of defender or said even the system restore at that.
NAP will effect even the ability of the explorer to download a file from a screen or window. This is caused by it changing rights management settings to be recognized by a system address file for it's own set of rights management and leaves OS settings unwritten. Thus blocking anything it does not recognize.
If I where you I would consider reinstalling the OS and be very careful what you install and how it is unistalled in the futeure. Trial and errors can be very frustrating and can even change your point of view on life itself sometimes!
Believe me it is not anything to do with Stardock software and you will find once you have clean installed everything. That you will be able to enjoy the OS much better. Plus once you have done this - get a good backup of your system so you can go back to fix a bad install of software or security system that has changed such system regs and settings. The which in most cases are not repairable or replaced.

why is it that some people have to disable all there security and others don't. i use AVG antivirus, zonealarm pro adaware and spybot and never once have i had to disable any of them to get any stardock program working. one thing people can try is dig into the options in the security programs they are using to make sure that they can be set to allow programs to be installed, or maybe if they are using a limited account that could be the problem. most of these programs need you to be logged in as computer administrator. so first up make sure you are logged in as that. in my opinion having to disable your security to use a stardock program is unacceptable and if this is the case stardock needs to look into this issue with great haste.

Nimbin - you ask a great question and there is no simple answer. I've not had a problem with any install from any program EVER until WB 5.51. Does that mean it's a Stardock problem - of course not. There a lot of complicated interdependencies going on. The reason people post and ask questions is to get sifficient data to determine what the root cause is and once it's found it's often a simple fix. The fact only a handful of people are talking about this makes the issue harder to root out.

Shelby - if you reply was to me, I am running WB 5.50 restored from the image I had BEFORE the 5.51 install. I'm pretty picky about what I put on my hard drive, who wrote the code, how it's installed and why. There is something different in WB 5.51 that was not there before 5.50. Whatever it is is conflicting with somethng on my system. I've spent more time worrying about 5.51 than the update is worth. I'm interested in finding the cause only to satisfy my curiousity and to solve any issues should this continue on when WB 6.0 is released later this year.

Pentjakmagick - still interested in hearing what's happening after your install and Bitdefender is running again. Thanks ... Sleep
