Some ideas about planetary shields and pirates

Hi all!!!
Pirates are a great challenge in this game and I like quite much the way they act, but wouldn't be fun that they have a secret planet or asteroid where they had their own production ship structures? So if you find and destroy it then they have to cease their attacks for a while (just until they build a new base somewhere randomly).

Another point is about shield planetary defenses, I think they should look better if they act just the same as shields do in spaceships, I mean, when you create a planetary shield then the planet will gain a shield defensive capacity number just like ships, which will decrease with attacks, graphicaly will look great if while you still have power on the shield nukes explote before reaching planet surface, or are absorved by the shield

I have read or heard that the pirates will have a base in the final game,

do like your shield idea, certainly sounds interesting

I agree with this, as it stands now, shields while looking ok, just don't cut it on the planets...

I'm pretty sure I've seen nukes explode on top of the shield before already.

Yeah, they do. But it's hard to tell the differene between a planet hit and a shield hit.

Planetary shields should be finite like those on the ships (but still be very powerful). Also, the shield generators should be part of the unseen planet infrastructure.

Make Planetary Shield Generators part of the Civic Development system (accessible through research, of course). Asteroids can only get Shield level 1, standard planets can get shield level 2 and capital planets can get level 3 (or, ice/volcano planets level 2 and Terran planets level 3).

Also, I am glad to hear the pirates will have real bases instead of the present Pirate Creationism.
