Newbie trade question

Hi,

Enjoying the game (Dread Lords, latest patch) but I cannot seem to trade with anyone. For example, I have researched trade and have a trade commodity on earth, built a frieghter on earth and then launched it towards another race. When I double click on the other races planet in order to establish trade nothing happens. I know I am missing something really basic but its driving me nuts!! Please help.

Hello, hope i can help.

When you say trade commodity, i assume you mean one of the trade goods like Diplomatic Translators or Micro Repair Bots. These have no bearing on the actually trade via ships in the game. These are for you to trade via the Foreign Relations screen when talking to another empire, or keep for your self. I never trade away Diplo Trans or Aphrodesiac.

Onto trade via freighters. Once you research trade and get the freighter are you using the default ship or building your own, if your own be sure to put the Trade module on the ship, it's an empty hull without it. Once built and launched simply select your ship and right click on the AI planet you wish to trade with.

The only reason it would not work is if you are,

A) At war with that AI, they will throw things at you and tell you where to go..
B) If they have placed a trade embargo on you. Not that i have seen the AI do this....
C) The planet is out of range of your ship

Also once you reach your trade limit, though this would not be the case as in hand.

A little trick i do is to pick a minor race to trade with, preferably one that you can protect from everyone else. That way when you go on your mission to destroy the major races you won't be losing any trade income....

Hi,

Many thanks for clarifying the trade commodities, I understand that now.

However as far as trading via freighters goes i am still having problems. I research trade, pick the default freighter, launch, arrive at the other race's planet and right click that planet, but my freighter just sits there - doesnt start moving to and fro (in minature). The planet is within reach as I am actually adjacent to it with my frieghter. I am not at war and I dont believe trade emargoes are in place. Other race's are trading with me though through there own initiation.

Hi again,

No need for a reply I have sorted it.....you were right I was choosing a freighter I had designed and I forgot to put the trade module on it!!!!

Ok i will load up and quickly run through some trade and see what i have forgotten.

Any game details you could give might help too...

Certainly a head scratcher....unless it's a bug.
