Using Keyboard to Move Ship?

How do you use the keyboard to move a ship? I've already been screwed by the map moving and clicking on the wrong space with the mouse. A ship can move in 8 directions, the arrow keys only account for 4 directions. What am I missing?

So, there's no way to use the keyboard to move ships then? I seem to recall you could do this in Gal Civ I. Using the number pad or something like that.
