Defender Gun Model

Hi I just picked up the game and have a quick question.

I just got the tech that allows the defender. However the model of the gun on the defender is different than the model allowed when I'm making my own design. Is their a way to scroll through models that I'm missing? Is this gun model only allowed on the pre-made Defender?

Just curious.

you can create your own hulls from scratch or use premade templates, its important to make your own designs with the weaponns and defensive technologies you have aquired. the premade designs won't incorperate your latest technologies you must do it yourself.

Yes, but you didn't answer my question. The tech Space Weapons allows the Particle Beam and the 'Defender' pre-made design.
But the gun model on the Defender looks much different than the particle beam I'm allowed to select. I'm wondering why I'm able to build that ship, but not build custom ships with that particular gun on it. (even if I edit the Defender the weapon disapears and I have to use the default model of the particle beam). My question is, is it possible to use that gun-model off of the defender at all? Is it just another version of the particle beam, and if so, how do I get to it?

That gun is actually a mass driver gun, and is just used for decoration. You cannot use that gun on your own ships unless you have the required tech (the mass driver technology just after mass driver theory), and even then you cannot use it for decoration.

I believe there is a mod in the library that allows you to place weapons for decoration, if you are looking for something like that.

Yeah, Kryo made a mod that substantially increases your options for ship building. Never used it myself, but the feature set looks incredible...
