And the crowds loved it.
The Euro 2008 "Group A" qualifying soccer match between Finland and Belgium in Helsinki was under way, when 19 minutes into the game an owl flew into the stadium and interrupted proceedings. The owl flew from goal post to goal post, settling himself and surveying the crowds, seemingly enjoying the the adulation and the noise.
The English ref suspended play for approximately 7 minutes while the owl whiled away the time flying around the pitch and the stadium occasionally coming to rest on the goal posts.
