The unofficial end to the story has the Pontiac dealer painting it red (Arizona sun was death on metallic paint jobs) and selling it to a sailor who ran it into the I-5/I-8 overpass at a very high rate of speed...some time in 1968...The Chief had a buddy who worked part time at the dealership.
