docks in themes

I'm new, and know nothing about skinning really, I was wondering, If a theme comes with a dock, and you download it but you still want to use your objectdock, can you disable the dock that comes with the theme?

pretty much - except for maybe AlienGuise themes, using their theme manager - but I think there's a way around
