Happy Memorial Day!

Here in Michigan it's a beautiful day and I hope you all have time to go and enjoy the day too.  On this day, we celebrate the brave sacrifice of our soldiers who have given so much in order for the rest of us to enjoy the freedoms we cherish.

I'm in New Mexico, it's a nice 68F now going up to an expected 85F with partly cloudy skies. Should be great weather for about just anything you have your mind set to do.

I agree with Frogboy, lets remember for a moment why we celebrate this day. If you had a family member that gave all they had, visit the cemetary, if you can, and let them they are not forgotten. Also, put out those FLAGS, this is Memorial Day!!!

For now.....the rain has stopped here in Missouri. A beautiful day to remember not only those that have fought for our freedom, but our friends and family as well.

In our little town, we have a small parade and still do the poppy ceremony.  My daughter and I went to it and she got a poppy and tootsie rolls (I have no idea why the tootsie rolls..)  It's a beautiful day out.  I just wish there was a bit more wind so that our flag would fly a bit better.

We cherish too, the Poppy red
That grows on fields where valor led,
It seems to signal to the skies
That blood of heroes never dies.

Does anyone know the original name of memorial day?

It Canada, we call it "Remembrance Day" and we also use the red poppy as it's symbol.
We celebrate it in November.
