I suggest you definitely go for Ubuntu its easy to download, you can run it of the disc this helps to see if stuff like sound and other components work, then its so easy to install, also once installed you can go to this add/remove programs which hooks up to the internet and gives you a whole database to pick from, i have only been using it for 2 weeks i have used various other linux's and i truly believe that this is the best also any issues you do have go straight to Ubuntu forums and any issues will probably be fixed in a few minutes. GET UBUNTU.

ubuntu is just fine, for *some* people. me, i use it on a couple boxes. but, for my lack of money, nothing tops Mandriva.

btw, for all you skinners, if you get a free moment, check out the live version of looking glass linux. it's absolutley gorgeous.

freakboysystem, a lot more versions than ubuntu run off of the cd.

Yep, agreed Ubuntu is way cool - especially when 'Beryl' is installed [beats looking glass IMHO]
I use XP, Vista, Ubuntu and Mac OSX - all either on separate disks or under VMWare,- and I skin 'em all.
[Even have Win98 and Win3.1 in VMWare!]

hmmm...well ive talked to a few of my friends, and they have told me that they had a very hard time getting ubuntu to actually work on their computers. they said with ubuntu, either it works or it doesnt. they told me that it also depends on what you have as well tho....

Yea. The last couple of years I've installed Ubuntu on a few old machines and the results varied.

Though my last install yesterday of Ubuntu 7.04 went quite allright. And the "Desktop Effects"... sweet! I want that Workspace switcher for my Windows box!
