Mini-map problem--stars can hardly be seen

I am running a huge sized game. I just started playing DA after long playing
DL.
The stars and planets in my mini-map are hardly visible in DA compared to the same sized map in DL. I have a feeling that something in the options might fix it but I don't know what. I have tried several things in the video option but so far nothing works. The rest of the main screen is fine.
I am playing 1024x72x on a 17 inch monitor. I know that with a huge map it is hard to see things on the mini-map even in DL. But with the same sized map in DA, the stars and planets are way too dim.
