Issues with Task Switched in Vista

I have a laptop running Vista Business, but due to the relatively average card, it is running Vista Basic, and not Aero. I am experiencing two apparently related problems when I use WB Skins with this configuration.
1) When using the Task Switcher, the Task Switcher box is larger than under Vista, the box appears in black, and I can not see the content of any of the screens or icons as I Tab through them. I can read the titles of each Window, but only because the outline of each letter is shadowed, the font itself is black on black.
2) If I bring up various System dialogs, such as "Connect to Network", the menu bar below the Window Title Bar, is also black. Again the fonts are black, but I can make out the words due to the highlighting around them.
Can anyone shed some light on this. Otherwise things seem to be working OK, except of course, without any transparency.
