How do we cheat and how do we install mods for DA?

I have been reading these forums. I can't seem to get the mods to work when I install them in the GCII/darkavatar/interface/addon directory.
Also, how do we get the cheat codes to work? I can't seem to be able to place the word "cheat" after the Dalaunch.exe. What I am doing is to right click on the Dark avatar icon and then click on properties. I see the target for the launch, which ends with DAlaunch.exe in quote. I try to place the word 'cheat' outside the quotes. I get an error message that "the target is not valid.Make sure the path and file names are correct." Any way to get around this? Please be as specific with your answer as possible since I am not that computer literate.
PS: my file for launch when I look that the properties is: "C:\Program Files\Stardock\TotalGaming\GalCiv2\DarkAvatar\DALaunch.exe"
