OD 1.9 won't run more than once!

I just upgraded to 1.9 from 1.59 (which gave me no trouble). 1.9 runs the fist time after install and that's it. Crashes every time after that. Went back to 1.59, no problem. Tried 1.9 again and same symptoms. Uninstalled 1.9 three times and it acted the same way. OD Free 1.9 works no prob. Rocketdock works no prob. 1.59 no probs.

It looks to me like 1.9 is looking for Last(Cobalt) in the .ini files. These folders are not being installed on my machine.

And, YES, it's fully registered (I have 4 licenses).

Feels kinda silly running 1.9 Free when I have all these licenses.

TIA

Makes sense then that it would crash.

****You will also need to uninstall each version of OD that you have installed. Reboot

You should also use a registry cleaner & Reboot.

Using Stardock Central ( SDC ) make sure that you have archive 1.59 first....and all your icons, backgrounds & docklets that you have downloaded are in the OD+ folder in My Documents.

Then uninstall 1.59 via SDC & let it remove all the backgrounds & images & settings, Reboot & use Jv16 power tools to clean registry.

Then install 1.9 via SDC ...Reboot and remeber to archive 1.9

A tutorial for archiving with SDC is HERE

It seem that the installer should do all of that. I paid for this program and
feel Stardock should pull this verison and fix it.

mbroccio I would like to know which programs you have purchased that archive backups for you?
I am sorry that you are having problems with OD. The developer is following up on any reports received about issues and now that more people have updated to this version and any missed issues are being found he will indeed fix them. We need to allow some time for him to collect all the info available and fix it once.

Mine works perfectly on XP PRO SP2.

#1, I GOTTA ask this and I am serious as a heart attack here....are you joking about all that stuff with the reg cleaners and figuring out where all of my downloaded stuff is and uninstalling every attempt I made to get 1.9 to run? Is it progressively storing all installs...even the same version?

PLEASE tell me your post was a complete windup! How would I get my files back in OD after SDC uninstall had erased them all and I removed all the reg info (after I went out and bought a reg cleaner)??????

any apps you archive are stored in C:\Program Files\Stardock\SDCentral\BACKUP
so, if you archive then uninstall - an archive version will be in SDC's backup folder
then you can use tools > restore archive

you can leave them there or move them to disk at your leisure

she's not kidding. if you do a thorough uninstall, there's a chance you'll lose any downloaded background, icons, etc unless you move them first

Have you cleared the cache? sometimes when it borks, the file in the cache continues the borking

not sure why 1.9 looks for it if 1.5 wasn't using it.

when you go from 1.5 to 1.9 how are you doing it? uninstall one, install the other?
since you have 1.5 archived (check the folder to make sure one is there - if not archive it) try a straight update (turn off autoarchive) and just let 1.9 flow over 1.5

Thanks Bichur! Sure enough, I lost all my files. Hopefully I can find them on a backup DVD.

1. I don't know which cache you are referring to, so I don't know if I cleared it. I think you may be correct though. It seems to find my old files (which I can't find), then works fine with them the first time but dies when I close it and then reopen. Never works after that. I think it has something to do with AppsImages.ini.

I have been rebooting between each step. I also scrounged a reg cleaner and deleted everything with ObjectDock in it.

What makes me crazy is that the free version has no trouble at all.

It's starting to make me cranky so I think I will just use RD until Stardock releases something newer.

Thanks again.

We are looking into this.

You installing the stand-alone installer or through Stardock Central?

I don't know which cache you are referring to, so I don't know if I cleared it.

generally found in: C:\Documents and Settings\Owner\Local Settings\Application Data\Stardock

where owner is you. need to have hidden files unhidden.

Corky O wrote a tutorial for it: Clearing the Cache 101

also useful for clearing widget caches, etc.

Jeff, I have indeed sent them a crash zip. Got an automated response but haven't heard anything since. Thanks for asking.

Frogboy, I am using the SD installer.

Here is a new twist. When I uninstall 1.9 after it starts crashing, then reboot, then clean registry of anything that says ObjectDock, then reboot again, then load 1.59 with CNTL+r, then run it.......IT IS 1.9!!!!!!!

It will probably turn out to be something in my system but, as I have said before...ObjectDock Free 1.9 has NO problems. Runs like a champ. Every time.

What is Plus trying to do that Free isn't???????

Thanks for your interest.

Thank you to MySecret, Bichur, and Milksama!!!

It was the cache. Don't know why OD Free didn't care but once I uninstalled AND cleared the cache, then reinstalled, BINGO! Still lost my custom files but, Oh Well. 1.9 is VERY cool!

Thanks again, THIS is definitely community to me!
