ObjectDock 1.9 released

Faster, Prettier, Easier to use, and more usable!

Stardock has released ObjectDock 1.9.  ObjectDock is a free program that adds a configurable, skinnable dock to Windows.  Once installed, users can add short-cuts, display running tasks, and add mini-applets called docklets to their docks that can display weather information, time, system info, or much anything else.

ObjectDock 1.9 adds a host of new features including a Start menu docklet (for bringing up the real Start menu in the system tray), live thumbnail previews on Windows Vista, a new weather docklet, minimize and restore effects on Windows Vista, free-form screen positioning, a new graphics engine for massively better performance, reduce memory requirements, new tileable dock backgrounds, and much more.

ObjectDock is a free download at http://www.objectdock.com.  Stardock also has ObjectDock Plus which adds support for multiple docks, tabbed docks, system tray support, additional mouse-over effects and more.

I setup my docks with some of the new docklets and saved the theme. When I went to apply it to see if everything was saved it gave me a dock on the bottom with nothing on it. I went into programs\stardock\objectdock\themes folder and it wasn't there, so I did a search for it and found it Documents\Objectdock Library\Backup and the .ini file was 2kb when I opened it up it had nothing todo with my docks or my settings.

So how do you save themes? and I never understood why there is an ObjeckDock Library in the docs folder when all my icons and pngs are in the programs folder.

It did crash on me a few times: Crash Dump with the following error MDMPҤ(Q

Guys,

I've found a way to solve the IE slow problem. In the Objectdock properties/General/"Troubleshooting Options" check both the "System Hooks" checkboxes.

Thanks that, my IE is OK again.

What docklet? I don't see a RAM or CPU default docklet on my default install.

the "RAM docklet" was part of the previous version of object dock. When I installed the 1.9 version, it kept the previous docklets in the list.

Have you rebooted?

Yes, I rebooted. always says: "ObjectDock was unable to find the start menu to show. Can not show start menu at this time, please try again."

Od 1.9 plus, like rlsima78
My vista machine the original startmenu docklet doesn't work. Everytime I try to use it, objectdock ask me to "try later"... strange.
But startmenu v2 docklet by AndreasV , work fine.

job well done stardock

it does seem to work much smoother then before

Verrrry smooth zooming

Couple of small niggles. The start menu docklet sometimes triggers DEP in XP and the weather docklet doesn't work for locations outside the US.

Fantastic... Love the new upgrades and features - I wouldn't be without this program now and have it installed on my computers at home and work. One quick question though... Any chance of released a full icon pack for the new bundled icons, coz they're great!

This is awesome. I love the fact that the thumbnails for the taskbar are "live." As I scroll up and down a webpage, the little firefox icon's thumbnail image scrolls up and down too! That's really neat.

I think that's a vista feature. On XP, even with plus, it only displays the contents of a window when it's minimized so it just basically takes a screenshot of it. I still love that feature, that and the "show only minized windows in taskbar" option - before that I never used the taskbar in object dock because it would get very big very quick but with this thing it's actually usable now. Kudos!

I found a small bug though - if you set it to hide off screen on maximized applications, it doesn't restore the dock if the maximized application has been minimized and no other windows are open. If there's another window that is not minimized then the dock comes back.

Yeah, I'm running Vista and OD+. I'm very glad to see Stardock releasing some Vista eye-candy. (Can't wait to see the new version of WindowFX!)

nikay: re the weather, in Canada I'm finding that my city, province abbreviation (i.e calgary, ab) works. I wonder if something similar might work for Australia? Fuzzy, possibly the same for you?

Hi, I tried all combo for my country in the weather docklet. Didn't work.

I'm from singapore. I tried

Singapore, Singapore
SN, Singapore
SG, Singapore
Singapore, SN

None of them worked.
Can someone help test it out? thanks!

I have a problem with the update. When OD+ is running, and I minimize a window, it pauses for 1-2 seconds before actually minimizing. If I close OD+, the pause goes away, so I know it's not a problem with my Vista setup. I tried disabling all thumbnail and DWM features, also disabled window-event hooking. I also disabled all docklets. Nothing helped. I get the pause everytime.

I always have windows explorer open and I have it on my dock...but I've noticed with this upgrade the running indicator will just disappear even though I still have windows explorer open. So I have to click on the icon, running indicator shows up, then close the new explorer window, and then it just disappears again. *sigh*

Edit: well 1.9 just gave up the ghost and vanished for no reason so I've restored my 1.5 archive.

I'm really liking this great piece of software, but It doesn't open my start menu. Every time I want to it says it was unable to find it. Is there any way to fix that so I can finally chuck out the old windows bar? (I'm using XP SP2)

I faced that problem too, and it was not so cool to launch another explorer window every time just to bring opened ones to the front. I was seeking a solution for that. So I tried to create a fake Explorer.exe process in hope that it'll help. Results are that indicator remains for much longer period of time and even if it disappears there is no need to launch new explorer window to active already opened ones - two clicks and I'm ready to use explorer! So how it works? It's simple. Place Explorer.exe (fake one) somewhere in Program Files, i.e. D:\Program Files\Explorer.exe, and in the Dock Entry Properties window navigate Link text area to D:\Program Files\Explorer.exe. Please look screenshot here http://cid-6979529c9b7b1028.skydrive.live.com/self.aspx/Public/ObjectDock-Explorer-indicator/Explorer-indicator.jpg (Apple icon actually is the Explorer's dock) Cons: you need to launch Explorer in some other way, for example through Win + E key combination. Launch it ones and just don't close it later. You can download Explorer.zip here. http://cid-6979529c9b7b1028.skydrive.live.com/self.aspx/Public/ObjectDock-Explorer-indicator/Explorer.zip Free of viruses, you can check file with the help of the following site: http://online.us.drweb.com/ http://virusscan.jotti.org/ http://virscan.org/ Or you may download source code and compile it yourself. Source code for Visual Basic v6.0 http://cid-6979529c9b7b1028.skydrive.live.com/self.aspx/Public/ObjectDock-Explorer-indicator/|_Project-fake-explorer-process.zip Explorer.exe process can be terminated through Windows Task Manager, but be careful to not end the real explorer.exe process. I hope that will help and wish you a great user experience. Peace. PS: I'm running Windows XP SP3
