Galactic Achievements?

Hi all,

I have a concern about some of the Galactic Achievements and Trade Goods and what have you.

According to the description, Wiki and some posts here, all of these buildings should have a civilization-wide effect, unless noted otherwise in the description, and indeed there are some that mention that their effect is only for the planet they are build upon.

However, I played a game yesterday and I build most of these buildings (the civ-wide effect ones), yet I did not notice any change whatsoever to my civilisation stats, only on the planet the building was on. For example, I build some achievement that is supposed to boost my overall research (supposedly ), but it only boosted that of the planet it was built on. Same thing for the moral achievements/goods. The only effect I see is planet-wide, not civ-wide.

So what is the deal?

What did you build specifically?

Well I built pretty much everything, and of the most (supposedly) civ-wide buildings had only localised effects. The one that tipped me off was Omega Research Center I think.

I can't remember all of them, but I think Omegas are specific to planets, but Hyperions are civ-wide. Well, that's not entirely true, because Hyperion Shipyard is planet-specific. Omega Research (which I just built for the first time) is only for the planet it's on, though the description might not say that.

The Trade Goods are definitely civ-wide. You might not notice a change from some of the later morale ones, because the formula used to calculate morale is more complicated than I can explain (or even understand!). But if, for instance, you suddenly lost a morale resource starbase, it would make a difference that you had those trade goods.

most of the galactic achievements do have civ-wide effects; maybe you were thinking of civilization achievements (the various capitals and a few others). IIRC all of the trade goods are civ-wide, so that's an easy place to start. check your stats tab in the F6 screen before and after. whether or not you notice the effect in production, research rate, or whatever can depend on other factors.

out of the galactic achievements, the omega research center is specific to the planet, and so is the galactic resort (which sucks). i can't really think of any others that are specific to the planet.

Thanks for the replies. It seems some building description are just wrong and devs need to fix those to reflect their correct effect.

Also, since I bought and installed DA, I've been having a lot of game crashes. I have a feeling this expansion is not finished properly or maybe was not tested enough or something?! When trying to play the campaign, I get to mission 2, and if I try to restart mission (Ctrl+N) to get a better start (tile bonuses) and chose restart mission option from window, the game corrupts and crashes. Same happens with mission 3, which is where I am at currently. Only way is to reload previous End Game save and take it from there. Sometimes reloading a save would just freeze the game. Sadly, no other game I have crashes as much as DA! A nasty annoyance really in such a nice game.

I have been playing the boxed version of DA (and the latest beta, partly, also) for a month near continuously. It has been extremely stable, not a single CDT, even with maxed out gigantic galaxies late in the game. Now, admittedly, I have not been playing the campaign.

How close to the minimum system standards is your rig? And have you tried dialing back some of the game settings from the options screen? Especially, back all settings off to the next-to-top preset (AAx3, etc), turn off the soft cursor, and turn off the unlimited AI CPU cycles, unless you have a less than one year old, upper half of market rig. (You might need to turn the unlimited CPU cycles off anyway, unless you are dual/quad core.) See if that helps. If not, contact Stardock Tech Spt.

If you are having crashes, please start a new thread about it and post your debug.err there.
