You know it's bad when...

your dreams do your homework

Back in high school, I was in a production of "Oklahoma!". I played Ado Annie. (Somehow, I'm always typecast as the slut... I don't know why that happens. But I digress) The week before the show, I began to rehearse in my sleep. I would go through the entire show in my dreams, often waking myself up singing. I knew everyone's lines, blocking, songs and entrances. I often had to remind "Will" which side of the stage to enter on. This meant that I could dream the entire show.

Since that time, I've had occasions where I work things out in my dreams. I know they say your mind works out problems while you sleep, but my brain doesn't do it in symbols and images; my brain works out problems literally.

Last night, my brain attempted to write two papers for me. It started writing my 18th century Neoclassic paper. Unfortunately, it started comparing it to Medieval literature and mixing it up with my Neoclassic paper. It did write a very good introduction for the Neoclassic paper, though. I had to write it out as soon as I woke up, so I didn't forget it. I felt like Coleridge, dreading the person from Porlock.

Have a happy Sunday!

Actually, I have found dreams very useful for these types of projects. I'm working on a paper on the interpersonal relationships in the movie "Benny and Joon", and have gotten a couple of points from dreams or other free time ruminations. I'm thinking of presenting the hypoethesis that Sam is imaginary, though at this late stage I doubt I would rework the entire paper around it.

At least you wrote something down immediately! I do that when I take a shower. My mind works on solutions when I'm taking a long nice shower!

Don't you hate when that happens? You think of something great, but it's too late to change stuff. Ick.

A friend of mine used to keep a dry erase marker in the shower to work out problems because she said her mind worked better there. Of course, this led to her friends and roommates leaving notes to each other on the shower walls, and then drawing "caveman porn"...

I wish my dreams could've done a few pages for me...

I only got the introduction from my dream, but every little bit helps.

And now I have "Any Dream Will Do" from Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat stuck in my head.

Drew back the curtain,
To see for certain

"Far, far away,
Someone was weeping,
But the world was sleeping,
Any dream will do."

Hey Gid, there are worse songs out there. If I'm going to be damned, I'm going to get something really bad stuck in your head...

"It's a small world after all... It's a small world after all..."

Keep a PDA handy when you sleep.

I do keep a notebook and a pen next to my bed just in case I have a good idea, a story or sometimes a song in my sleep. I also have a digital recorder by my bed.

IT'S ON, SHE!

"Friday night and the lights are low
Looking out for the place to go
Where they play the right music, getting in the swing
You come in to look for a king
Anybody could be that guy
Night is young and the musics high
With a bit of rock music, everything is fine
Youre in the mood for a dance
And when you get the chance..."

LOL!

Daylight come and he wanna go home
Day, he say day, he say day, he say day,
He say day, he say day-ay-ay-o
Daylight come and he wanna go home

Work all night on a drink a'rum
Daylight come and he wanna go home
Stack banana till thee morning come
Daylight come and he wanna go home

Come, Mr. Tally Mon, tally me banana
Daylight come and he wanna go home

Daylight come and he wanna go home
