Getting Cinematic Battle View to Turn On

In Options I have "Full Battles" turned on, but during fights I only get the quickie version where ships on the map shoot lasers on each other. I also don't get the battle log either.

Working on the "It's that loose screw behind the keyboard" keyboard theory, what am I missing to turn on cinematic battles?

Also have to enable (click) the Show Full Fleet Battles.

Also you may have the option set to only show full battles if both sides are fleets, in which case you won't see the full battles if the attacker or defender is a single ship.
