We live in a societal environment (country, state, county, city etc.) and as individualistic as we want to be, there are dictates that have to be considered for the good of the majority, PARTICULARLY in a free capitalistic society. You see, these kinds of considerations are taken care of for you in closed (dictatorial or socialistic) societies. You don’t have a democratic society anymore when the dictates of the few outweigh the dictates of the many. When you open the equality door to deviant life styles, you begin the short road to the complete downfall of the society in question. I am not trying to dictate how people should live, but I am saying that there has to be enforceable laws and limits in place for the protection of your society as a whole. I don’t believe that governments have any business in people’s bedrooms (or Homes) for the most part and that people should be allowed to live life as they please … to a point. Why do societies have any rules at all? Why; because there would be complete anarchy without them and no society could possibly survive that. Most rules are enacted to protect the innocent amongst us (even so, try telling that to a rape victim (works both ways here) or the family of a murdered member) and to provide a place to live predisposed to accepted norms. When you start opening these doors, where do you stop? When you give the gays ‘family’ recognition and membership, what argument do you use then to prevent all the other various hordes that will follow and demand to be let in too? Of the millions of species that have ever lived on the face of the Earth, from the smallest gnat to the largest whale, how many have entertained gay relationships? Besides humankind, NONE is how many, so how in the world could this behavior be called anything but aberrant? As I see it, everything cannot be worked out at the same time. Racial segregation and bigotry are much higher on the to-do list and much more prevalent and widespread in our society, and we have been working on this full time for over 40 years now. We have undergone many societal changes throughout our history and NONE of them have been easy to swallow or quickly accomplished.
Many are under the impression that gays don’t choose homosexuality, but are born that way (I am sure some must be) and deserving of FAMILY status considerations on that basis alone. Are people really naïve enough to not believe many CHOOSE this lifestyle (for varied reasons), many are forced into it, many are ‘enlightened’ by other practitioners and many fall victim to idol and family member worship? By patronizing and accepting this aberrant behavior, you open a backdoor into society and once opened it is impossible to close again. If you are willing to believe what the so called ‘experts’ are want to say, then allowances would need to be made for all of the other groups and fetishes that they claim exist because they were born that way or otherwise ‘involuntarily’ ended up in this group of innocents, including (certainly not limited to) pedophiles, bigamists, psychotics, drunks, drug addicts, gamblers and well, new groups will come out of the woodwork daily with an established open backdoor policy. We haven’t even broached the political, religious or sexual extremists that will be beating on this opened door too.
Personally, I don’t have anything against gays (having known many and called them friends) and I think they should be free to live their life as they see fit, without persecution or prosecution. I don’t think they should be pressured to ‘come out’ publically; as they choose. But I do think that if and when they do come out, there needs be some safeguards initiated in particular concerning our most impressionable citizenry, our children. Typically liberals argue that there are countless heterosexual atrocities happening across the Nation and that a ridiculous number of single parents exist, and that is sadly true enough. Many use those kinds of statistics to imply that gays could not do any worse, and that is most likely true too. But those views don’t take into consideration that all those heterosexual family problems are passed from generation to generation because well, that’s what most children do, they emulate their parents and they idol worship. It is just a natural outcome in family relationships. I don’t believe that most gays would ‘promote’ their children to be gay, but women beaters and perverts engaging in incest and other atrocities don’t normally teach their preferred depravities to their children either, but the message to often gets transferred to them, none the less.
This always brings us back to the different approaches to an acceptable society as viewed by liberals and conservatives. One for all and all for one sounds nice, but is about as impractical a concept as there ever has been from a society’s perspective (albeit mandatory for sports teams and the military, etc.). Due to human nature alone, we are just plain too diverse to accommodate everyone’s deepest wishes … and survive. Sunday, April 08, 2007
