Help Test the Upload System Upgrade

Now with progress bars and timers!

https://www.wincustomize.com/upload2.aspx

Ever since we launched Dream.WinCustomize.com earlier this year, we've been working on improvements to our upload system to handle large file sizes.  In the past, users would just have clicked the submit button, waited and hoped it all worked.  There was no display of upload progress, and for users with exceptionally large files to upload, often the browser would timeout.  Well, we've made some steps to alleviate those problems.  Now, there is an upload script in testing that shows a progress bar indicating how much of the file has been uploaded, the current transfer speed, as well as a time-left and time-elapsed counter.  Improved error messages have also been added to help troubleshoot upload issues.

Net Dev is really close to signing off on the new upload script as "done" and have it be the main method people use to upload content, but before that happens, we need a week or two of heavy testing/usage to make sure we catch and iron out all the kinks.  That's where you come in.

For the next few weeks, when you find yourself looking to upload something to the galleries, please use this link:

Also, post any feedback or issues you may encounter with it to the comments section below.

I tried to upload a new WinMedia skin and it worked like charm. Good work!

Tried uploading another one 3 times already. Keep getting the following message:
"Your skin has failed to upload. Error code: UploadDetails"

Will keep trying

Update: Eventhough I got a message it failed to upload the skin appears 'In Moderation'

Your skin has failed to upload.
The screenshot file you are attempting to upload is not valid.
The skin file you are attempting to upload is not valid.
When uploading a new skin, your Skin file must also be submitted.

It's all there.. :\

I tried to upload a wallpaper twice and never got a confirmation or error or anything. I used the old link and got a confirmation so I don't know if it uploaded three times, or once. Back to the drawing board guys.

I tested it and it works, my only problem is that I went from 0% to completed in a few seconds so I only saw the progress message in the middle of the screen for a brief moment and never saw a progress bar but I did get notification that my upload was successful.

The message I saw when uploading a screenshot as a test was pretty much like Purrball's posting. And like unclerob, I only saw the progress bar after about 30 seconds, only as it was finished. (it is only my 2nd upload ever, and only to my page, so I may have done something wrong )

Just tried the same process through the "submit to gallery" on the home page and was told the upload was successful and being processed, and now shows "in moderation".

I tried today to upload couple of logons and got on my first try 'upload failed'. I was using Firefox 2 and then tried with IE7 and it worked like charm.

Maybe errors seem to appear more frequently in Firefox then in IE7

Thanks everyone for testing this.  We gained some valuable information.

Life is a Game - We found an issue with the new build of FireFox that is conflicting with our upload code.  We will be putting a some changes tomorrow that should take care of that issue.

PurrBall -  I noticed that a few of the problems you had were due to the file type that you were trying to upload, but there was also a problem on our end.  We fixed the problem on our end, and will be adding more error messages to let people know what went wrong on their end.

Frankief - I was not able to seen anywhere that you uploaded using the new upload page (https://www.wincustomize.com/upload2.aspx), I was only able to see that you uploaded using the old page (upload.aspx).  Maybe try again tomorrow afternoon, as the changes we are doing today may take care of the issues that you had.

And thanks again everyone for your patience and your help.  We will be publishing our changes tomorrow morning.

In the course of 3 hours, I have tried to upload 5 times to the new address.
Each time would stop. 6%, 7%, 9% x2, and 14%. I'm on satellite and my TCP Acceleration would drop to 0%. I would then have to reboot my satellite each time.
To see if it was my problem, I uploaded to (my) site and 3 other sites, with no problems.
Then tried here again, same problem. Dead satellite acceleration. It would start out fine and then go dead.

So, had to upload using the old address, which failed the first time, but it finally uploaded.

I uploaded a Master skin on the 1st, but was told that it uploaded as a free skin, even though everything was filled out correctly. The reason I mention this, is because if there is a problem with the regular upload address (accepting none free skins) and I have to use upload2 for my skins, then I have a major problem.

dean - Thanks, it works now

Interesting note, I use Maxthon which is basically run off the IE engine and the upload today, again failed to produce anything. I closed Maxthon and opened IE7 and the upload worked perfectly with the progress box and the upload confirmation. Wonder why and will I always have to use IE to upload? I don't ever use IE unless I have to.

Thanks again for everyone's help.  We uploaded a new build of the website this morning that should take care of most people's issues so far.

Please keep using this new upload page https://www.wincustomize.com/upload2.aspx so that we can get all of the kinks worked out.

Using FF 2.0.0.3
Uploaded to RightClick Gallery.
Upload fields looked no different - there was no progress bar at all and it seemed it uploaded per usual until page changed at end of upload and displayed:
Your skin has failed to upload.
Error code: UploadDetails

Edit: Just checked "My Skins" drop down list - no skin appears in moderation at this time .

Thanks for letting us know about the problems you are having with FireFox.  It appears that the new build of FireFox has some timing issues with out upload process.

We put in some changes this morning that will hopefully take care of the problem.  Let us know if there are any other problems.

At this time, it looks like noone is having any problems using IE 6 or 7.

Just as a note, there are no links on the website that will take you to the new upload page.  You must link to it from here (https://www.wincustomize.com/upload2.aspx) or from a forum post.  If you find yourself on https://www.wincustomize.com/upload.aspx, you are on the wrong page.  The old page will not handle large files (files over 30MB).  The two pages do look similar.

Forgot to mention, using WindowXP, SP2, IE7.
