Using ships created in Gal Civ 2 in dark avatar

Just as the title says, is it possible to get the ships I creared in the collectors edition with the extra jewlery? It would be nice to add to thoes designs with the new Dread Lords jewlery.

Yes, provided they have xml files and not the .shipclass files from DL 1.0.

You should simply need to copy the files from My Documents\My Games\GalCiv2\ships to My Documents\My Games\GC2DarkAvatar\ships. Note that since DA has new ship styles, you may also need to change the Sn_ prefix on the .shipcfg files in order to make your designs appear under the style you want. You can find the prefixes for all the styles by looking at the XML files in [location where the game is installed]\GalCiv2\DarkAvatar\English\ShipStyles. The <Prefix> value given in those files is what the beginning of the /shipcfg files' names should be.

Is there a way to easily make thee styles into templates without loading the game in cheat mode or whatever?

If you want to use a ship design as a template, just copy the files for it from GC2DarkAvatar/ships to GC2DarkAvatar/shiptemplates.

Actually, this doesn't seem to be working for me. I'm not sure of the problem, but I suspect it is either that the files need to be renamed "yourshipnamehere_t.xml" or the type in the .xml itself needs to be switched from "ship" to "template." I haven't had time to figure it out... last time I tried, I managed to accidently rename a bunch of files that weren't backed up (!).
