Problem running .dream

Lots of .dream files from wincustomize work fine but some don't. Some .dream make my Windows Explorer not responding then Windows DreamScene encountered an error dialog appears in system tray. I tried using the extracted videos in Program Data folder but it doesn't make any help. Can anyone have any ideal what's my problem. Thanx in advance!
My PC: Core 2 Duo E6600 2.4Ghz OC 3.0Gz
2GB DDRAM II 800Mhz dual channel
VGA 6800GS 256MB GDDR3 100.65 forceware
160GB SATA HDD
My PC got Experiment Index lowest score is 5.3, highest is 5.9 so I don't think it's the PC performance problem.

I have encountered the same problems as you mention with certain dreams and after some investigating at my end it would seem that one problem is the codec for playback during a dream.

The dreams I have downloaded that do not work and cause my explorer to crash and need restarting still get extracted and I can navigate to the dir and play the file back in media player with no problems, however it does need to fetch a codec via the net not sure if dreamscene or deskscapes are able to fetch codecs on the fly?

I have looked closely at the mpg files from the dreams I have downloaded that fail and in every one the encoding differs from the published specification for mpeg. This is prob due to the difference in the encoders/progs that dream creators use, not all mpegs are created equal

I have also noted that most files/dreams that have audio tracks (audable or silent but present)will cause a more noticeable jump or pause at the loop point and also effects cpu use.

I do not use wmv much so cannot comment much on it except that the sound issue I mentioned about mpeg seems worse with wmv encoding.

There are a couple of codec packages about on the web which I have read helped some people but also caused some problems for others.

Hope this is of some use to you

P.S.
I have tried the codec packages out without problems but was/am still unable to get all the downloadable dreams working together?
Maybe a Vista 64 bit thing.

The only one I have any trouble with at all is the earth.dream (of course, because it's the only one that cost money!), and it utterly freezes up the system, including the dreaded BSOD on reboot, until I go into safe mode and set the desktop to something else. Any ideas??! All the rest of the .dreams run beautifully!
