Possibly The Worst "Mother" In The World

We have heard the stories of babies being abandoned in dumpsters, on doorsteps and other places. When these events happen, like they did here in Delaware a few years back when 2 University of delaware students conspired to have a baby in a cheap, interstate motel room and then simply "throw it away," emotions always run high.

Emotions ran high around here. Of course, there were differing opinons, as there are in most cases of this nature. Some wanted the 2 students hung for theri crimes. Others had sympathy for the youngsters, who seemed emotionally ill equipped to handle the situation. And still others saw some middle ground whre a point could be made with punitive measures, but the students lives wouldn't be "destroyed."

I fell somewhere in the middle on that one. But more towards the side of punitive measures. But I could understand others seeing the situation differently.

Shortly thereafter, more cases came out. One, out of a New Jersey prom where the mother had abandoned her baby in a toilet. Again, debates flared and people found themselves on different sides. But where some had sympathy for the 2 'well to do" students in delaaware, not so much sympathy went out for the poor girl from Jersey. Which I found ironic, considering the Jersey girl's labor and birth appeared, at least from the reports I had seen, to be more spontaneous. The Delaware pair clearly had more of a "plan" going.

But those issues eventually faded from the local dialogues, and quite frankly, I hadn't heard much about mothers dumping their children and leaving them for dead. I thought about it awhile back and thought that maybe, despite the political passion surrounding the issue, that maybe more young mothers had seen a "deterent" in the way the rash of cases that previously got wide publicity and were handled.

But then recently, out of Fresno, California, we got a story that trumped them all. Police have been investigating a woman that they alledge, abandoned not 1 baby, not 2 babies, but 3 babies. One of them was dumped in the back of a dirty, garbage carrying, pick-up truck.

Of course, no one has been "convicted" yet or anything of the kind. But here is what we do know....

• Three newborns found, 11 months apart, 60 miles south of Fresno, California
• Babies were abandoned in two-block radius; two survived
• DNA tests show the two girls and a boy were siblings

Investigators launched a search for the "mother." That search has apparantly led to the arrest of a woman who will be charged with these crimes.

Question is, what is an appropriate punishment here? I don't think that this case can be judged like the forementioned ones or any like them. In those cases, some saw the "everybody makes a mistake" defense as plausible, even if they didn't buy it. In this case, we have a pattern. this woman , at least appears to be, a "serial" killer of newborn babies, and I believeee should be tried as such with 1 murder and 2 botched attempted murders as the evidence.

This woman, if convicted, might go into my book as possibly the worst mother ever. Anyone know any worse examples? I can't even think of one that is close right now."
