Neat Math Trick

YOUR AGE BY EATING OUT

Don't tell me your age; you probably would tell a falsehood anyway - but your waiter may know!

YOUR AGE BY DINER & RESTAURANT MATH

This is pretty neat.

DON'T CHEAT BY SCROLLING DOWN FIRST!

It takes less than a minute. Work this out as you read.
Be sure you don't read the bottom until you've worked it out!
This is not one of those waste of time things, it's fun.

1. First of all, pick the number of times a week that you would like to go out to eat.
(more than once but less than 10)

2. Multiply this number by 2 (just to be bold).

3. Add 5.

4. Multiply it by 50.

5. If you have already had your birthday this year add 1757...
If you haven't, add 1756.

6. Now subtract the four digit year that you were born.

You should have a three digit number.

The first digit of this was your original number(i.e., how many times you want to go out to restaurants in a week.)

The next two numbers are

YOUR AGE! ------ (Oh YES, it is!)

THIS IS THE ONLY YEAR(2007)IT WILL EVER WORK, SO SPREAD IT AROUND WHILE IT LASTS.

Thinks: another stupid math trick that won't work....

....damn, how'd they do that?

The answer to how this works is simple. First of all ignore items 1 and 2. That leaves the following 5 * 50 = 250. Add 250 to 1756 if you haven't had your birthday yet and you have tada 2006. And of course 2006 less the year of your birth gives your age. If you already had your birthday 250 plus 1757 is 2007. See math really is simple.

It works out fine, but I've seen this done before. This isn't the only year it will work. Maybe some numbers are changed, but it does work for other years. It's still a good trick.

Au Contraire, Cher Cheryl The equation will continue to work in the coming years. To get the trick to work next year just add "1" to the four digit numbers in step 5...The year after that you would need to add 2, and so on.

50(N2+5)+1756 or 1757-birth year(?)

Where N is the number of times one chooses to eat out, and 1756 or 1757 are the numbers needed to increase by one to make it work next year.
